Door Redux
Some of you may remember this one from back in January 2015 showing how hard winter can be on wooden doors around here.
We drove past the place again recently and the first thing I noticed was:
They got a new door!!!
My guess is that this was part of their renovations to mark their 175th anniversary:
As much as I liked the old red door, I really love the rich dark tone of this new one, and they even kept that funky 1/3 – 2/3 ratio:
I’ve always appreciated the charm of little country churches so I hung around for a few minutes to take a few more pics of the place:
Thanks for looking 🙂

Like the wood pattern in the paint of the new door! My new area (in the country) is littered with little churches like this one – have to get used to these views after having lived almost all of my life in the city – but I like it!

I really am excited for this church and their new door. Norm, I am also kind of “proud” of you, checking back on this door. Revisiting places is a great conversation starter! 🙂

I can’t take credit for revisiting really. We drive by this place on a semi-regular basis. But I did notice the new door though, so I’ll gladly take credit for that 😛

I love church doors, and this one is very beautiful. I love them so much, my post shows that I replaced my own front door with a church door! http://terriwebsterschrandt.com/2015/11/19/shut-the-front-door-thursday-doors/ Thanks again for hosting!

I especially like the photo of the entire facade – angles and offset features caught my eye. I’m glad you hung around to take that one!

Yes, I wonder if it is the same door but refurbished? It looks beautiful. I like the wood but have to say I love the red too. Something about a red door on a white church! Glad they had the funds to do some renovation though – many churches these days are in major financial straits!

I’m pretty sure it is a brand new door and probably custom-made. I liked the red one too. I do remember thinking how sad it was that it was allowed to deteriorate like that, but as I said winters are tough on wooden doors around here.

Yes, wood definitely doesn’t hold up like some other materials! I’m glad they made the same style door. It’s unique.

Yes, thanks Joanne. It made me do a double take the first time I noticed the new door.

The was eye catching, but the wood is even more glamorous. Love the follow up on the door:)

Thanks. We drive past there fairly regularly so I couldn’t help but notice when they made the change.

Wow! Stunning wood grain replacement! Isn’t it nice they didn’t just go get some boring 2-part glass doors? I wonder if they didn’t remove and refinish, but either way, I’m so impressed with their decision!
Pretty little church is pretty 🙂
Great doors!

Yeah they really did it justice by letting the natural wood grain shine through. It sure is a cute little church and in fact there’s an even smaller one that we drive past sometimes on that same road. Unfortunately it has a very boring green door 😦

I can’t say which one I like better… I guess it was necessary to do the change!

Yes unfortunately that old door had seen better days and it was starting to rot, so sometimes change is good.

Norm – that really is a cool door with the ratio – and maybe they upgraded the door because they saw your post (u never know) and I can’t decide if I like the red or the new wood tone best- but I had to stop by because from the reader this charming church seemed like a holiday card – and the second to last photo was my fav of them – have a good day –

I doubt that my previous post influenced their upgrade decisions but thanks for the vote of confidence 😀

I was going to comment about how I like the red door, until I saw the replacement. That is beautiful, and when you have fine wood to showcase, nothing beats a natural finish. I really like that they preserved the unbalanced split between the two doors and I’m certainly happy that they didn’t go for the aluminum and glass commercial replacement door. this was a great find Norm.

Absolutely agree with you Dan. Judging by the grain and color I think it’s mahogany but I’m not 100% sure. It sure is purdy though 🙂

That’s what I was thinking Norm and mahogany is a good choice for wood that has to face the weather.

I have to agree with you Norm. The grain in that wood is gorgeous, it’s much nicer than the red door. I think it’s the white background that makes it stand out so well.

Thanks Jean. Yes it really pops against the white background and I just love the waves in the wood grain.

New, or just repainted and fixed? 🙂 In any case, it looks very good! Let’s just hope no enemy writes “New door??” on it, which happened to my neighbour.
