Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Feel free to join in on the fun by creating your own Thursday Doors post each week and then sharing it, between Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time), by using the blue link-up button below.
Our New Doors Are In!
A bit of a boring follow-up post for this week. If you remember back in early March I showed you our old doors on our home.
This was just after we’d made arrangements with a local door and window specialist to have some new, more energy efficient doors and windows installed and I wanted to capture the old ones one last time for posterity.
Years of wear and tear had taken their toll and the old doors were not doing as good a job of keeping the outdoors well…outdoors; especially during the coldest parts of winter.
Well the new doors and windows were installed earlier this month and so far we are very happy with the results.
They’re not any fancier than the ones they replaced, but they are supposed to be a lot more efficient at keeping the elements out.
What these shots do remind me of is the fact that now that the snow has melted it’s time for me to get out and rake and de-thatch the lawn for spring 😀
As for the new doors I guess the real test will only come next winter, but from the inside we’re pretty confident that the frost and cold air will stay on the other side where they belong.
As always, thanks so much for dropping by 🙂

I think your choice of doors were great. They seem to complement the exterior (and the interior) very well!! 🙂

Why do I always think it is Sunday Doors instead of Thursday Doors??? Thought I was going to be early and here I am late again: https://judydykstrabrown.com/2018/05/05/tardy-but-lofty-thursday-doors-may-5-2018/

I love those new doors. My mother recently re-painted my front door. She also painted my living room and hallway.

Cool. If your Mom likes to repaint we have a few rooms she could work on for us 😉

Great doors Norm, only right that the host of Thursday Doors should treat himself to some new ones. I love the stonework around them, too.

Nice doors, Norm, and it looks like a very nice installation. I hope they help keep the elements out better than the old ones. Living where you do, I think the old ones probably earned their retirement.
It is time to get the rakes out, but that means we can put the snow shovels away – and that’s a good thing.
Have a great weekend, Norm.

Thanks Dan. Hopefully the weather cooperates this weekend to get the yard work done 🙂

I need to follow in your footsteps on this. I’ve got really sucky doors that barely keep the elements out. I was thinking of adding an outer security door instead. But I’m going to look around and see what’s out there. Good post.

Thank you. The hardest thing is narrowing it down and making a decision; there are so many options to choose from.

Hurrah! Insulation is good! I hope you see a change in your heating and cooling expenses. I really like that front door, quite handsome. Good choice 🙂 I will likely share my new garage door, whenever that day arrives. And prolly the front door when I paint it. I’m not sure I’ll ever show you the gaping hole in the back door’s jamb though 😉

Thanks Joey. We expect that between the new doors and the windows we replaced in the back end of the house we’ll recoup the expense in energy savings over the next dozen years or so *fingers crossed*

I love your doors – inside and out. I like the colors too. Now, we’ll hope they do their job well. 🙂 Put that raking off as long as you can. I put in a second day of it today – 23 bags and 3 blisters later, I’m exhausted. 🙂

I did a bit on the side of the house on Tuesday but we have 75% left to do this weekend…assuming the weather cooperates. 23 bags eh? That sounds like a lot of ground to cover.

Doors that keep the outside outside are the BEST kind! Good choice 🙂
Congratulations on the disappearance of all your snow. Now the next season starts …. yard work!

Very elegant doors. You’ve done a good job choosing them. I hope they do a good job keeping you guys warm!

Thanks Angela. They sure seem like they should do the trick. The windows we replaced in the back of the house will make a big difference too.

I like how new and pretty they look, Norm. It is always sad to replace doors which were beautiful (in their stained wood), but you had frost in the inside of your house! These will keep you warm, heating bills lower, all the right reasons.
I like the front doors with the lower panels adding a nice change, plus pretty hardware.

It “pays” to have good doors in the Northern parts. Here where I live it’s not such an issue, since I have them open a great deal of the time!

Thanks Manja. One can never be too careful. We put in fire and smoke detectors as well as extinguishers in a number of strategic locations throughout the house 🙂

Hi ya Norm. I haven’t posted doors in a while but have had in my mind to do something like this for you for a while. I hope you enjoy my take on your “doors” with my post on Barn Find rotting cars.

Figured it out. Getting an error because the link is more than 50 characters but it looks like it is sending people to the site so hopefully that will be ok. Have a nice day!

I took a look. You had the two fields Name and URL inverted so it was sending visitors to your homepage rather than to your specific door post. It’s fixed now.
On another note it seems that the WordPress spam filter is eating my comments on your blog. To release my comments from spam prison just go to the “comments” section of your admin dashboard and check in either “pending” or “spam”. I don’t know why it keeps doing this to me – sorry 😦

Keeping the elements out and the heating/cooling costs down is the most important thing. That being said, your front door has enough detail to look attractive and the door handle is more attractive than a simple knob. Looks good to me.

Thank you Janet. As with the door options, the number of choices for hardware was impressive. It made it real hard to settle on a choice but I think this combination works pretty well 🙂

Those are interesting two-panel doors. Around here almost all the front doors are six-panel, so seeing your new energy efficient doors is delightfully unique to me.

Thanks Ally. There were so many different design options that for a while the seemingly limitless number of choices was getting discouraging.

Thanks Stephen, yes it does feel good to get this done. At our age we should be good for at least as long as we still own the house and hopefully that will be for at least another 20 years 🙂
