Another church this week, but this time for a totally different reason.
When we drove past this one, St-Jean L’Évangéliste in Thurso Québec, I found the choice of colors for a church door so unusual that I had to circle back and take a few shots.
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me but I find this blue really doesn’t offset well against the beautiful old stone walls.
I guess they can’t all be pretty:

Actually I think you missed the Saturday deadline by a few days 😉
I have no objection leaving the link here if you want, but I think you’ll get more traffic if you allow me to delete it here, and you can try linking it up with the others for this week starting tomorrow.

At Christmas, the Mother Mary wears a blue gown and some angels have blue in their paintings.
The turquoise doesn’t bother me and I kind of like it, but French Provincial may go over “big” in Quebec!

Thanks for the insights, I wouldn’t have known that. ☺

I agree with all above. It was probably painted this color when “teal” was all the rage and even cars came out in this color. At least it isn’t yellow, like the new Ferraris.

I’m pretty sure you’re right. I think this paint job had to be at least a few years old.
Welcome and thanks for stopping by 🙂

Great post Norm – I love the turquoise colour but perhaps on a beach ball or a beach hut rather than on this church! The angels are totally funky aren’t they?!! 🙂

I personally like the choice of color, but it definitely has a modern feel that may not mesh well with a church.

I know what you mean. Maybe it just stands out a bit too much for my old-fashioned tastes.

I so agree with you about the choice of colour. Maybe it was on special. 🙂

LOL! I hadn’t thought of that but you might be right 😀

Artsy? Are we being politically correct? 😉

Thanks. Modern, sunny, almost tropical even. I wonder what it looks like in the winter surrounded by snow 😉

I like your doors for this week. Perhaps the light blue is a deliberate invitation to curious folks to check out the church further, as a sign of welcome/hospitality. At any rate here’s my entry: https://gwhphotos.wordpress.com/2015/08/27/thursday-doors-august-27-2015/

I like your theory on the choice of color. As always, thanks for participating this week.

To me it’s a modern colour against an building that is meant to look older, so maybe not a great match. However, I love the Angels standing either side of the door. Dare I say they say “Christmas” to me. I know it’s not even September yet!

Actually these shots were taken in July so I think we can rule out the Christmas angle. But the angels do stand out, that’s for sure.

Great selection of doors. At first the blue grabbed me, but on closer inspection, you are correct – thus hue of blue doesn’t have the gravitas to correlate to such a solid stone structure. A blue would work well if it was a darker, perhaps grayer, tone. I give the person who picked the blue the benefit of the doubt – color blind, maybe?

Color blind…perhaps 🙂
Or maybe it was a deliberate choice designed to make people notice. After all it sure worked on me.

The paint does not blend well at all but its a nice color. 😍

Thanks John. I agree, for a different use in another setting the color is nice.

Interesting. I agree, it’s not pretty, but it sure is an interesting color choice. There’s no denying that last photo really grabs attention!

Yeah the angels probably caught my eye and made me want to circle back at least as much as the color of the doors.

Norm, this is really interesting. It wouldn’t be my choice of color either but the last photo kind of pulls it all together. Good find. 🙂

Thanks Judy. Yes the last photo shows that they were going for a theme, though I’m not so sure how well they succeeded 😉

The color is a little muted but the doors are beautiful. I love stone buildings and this one is very interesting Norm.

Thanks Dan. The doors are nice, I just haven’t decided yet what color would work best.

I think a darker blue might work better, or just all white. There’s something about white against a stone wall that always seems to work.

Well , the blue got your attention. It stands out . That aqua blue is more common , I think , on Florida or California beach houses , so it makes a good contrast here , a Quebec church . maybe you’re a traditionalist at heart .

Dan I think you hit the nail on the head. I must be more of a traditionalist than I thought and really, these colors would work much better in a warm sunny climate.

hmmm, unusual choice of color for such a building. I would have expected up something more neutral. open door chez moi:
