Another church this week, but this time for a totally different reason.
When we drove past this one, St-Jean L’Évangéliste in Thurso Québec, I found the choice of colors for a church door so unusual that I had to circle back and take a few shots.
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me but I find this blue really doesn’t offset well against the beautiful old stone walls.
I guess they can’t all be pretty:

At Christmas, the Mother Mary wears a blue gown and some angels have blue in their paintings.
The turquoise doesn’t bother me and I kind of like it, but French Provincial may go over “big” in Quebec!

I agree with all above. It was probably painted this color when “teal” was all the rage and even cars came out in this color. At least it isn’t yellow, like the new Ferraris.

Great post Norm – I love the turquoise colour but perhaps on a beach ball or a beach hut rather than on this church! The angels are totally funky aren’t they?!! 🙂

I personally like the choice of color, but it definitely has a modern feel that may not mesh well with a church.

To me it’s a modern colour against an building that is meant to look older, so maybe not a great match. However, I love the Angels standing either side of the door. Dare I say they say “Christmas” to me. I know it’s not even September yet!

Actually these shots were taken in July so I think we can rule out the Christmas angle. But the angels do stand out, that’s for sure.

Great selection of doors. At first the blue grabbed me, but on closer inspection, you are correct – thus hue of blue doesn’t have the gravitas to correlate to such a solid stone structure. A blue would work well if it was a darker, perhaps grayer, tone. I give the person who picked the blue the benefit of the doubt – color blind, maybe?

Interesting. I agree, it’s not pretty, but it sure is an interesting color choice. There’s no denying that last photo really grabs attention!

Yeah the angels probably caught my eye and made me want to circle back at least as much as the color of the doors.

The color is a little muted but the doors are beautiful. I love stone buildings and this one is very interesting Norm.

I think a darker blue might work better, or just all white. There’s something about white against a stone wall that always seems to work.

Well , the blue got your attention. It stands out . That aqua blue is more common , I think , on Florida or California beach houses , so it makes a good contrast here , a Quebec church . maybe you’re a traditionalist at heart .

Dan I think you hit the nail on the head. I must be more of a traditionalist than I thought and really, these colors would work much better in a warm sunny climate.
