Share Your World 2015 – Week 26

Here are my answers to Cee’s weekly prompt: Share Your World – Week 26

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?

I guess it depends on who else might be driving. I prefer a relatively smooth ride especially in city traffic. I find some people are too heavy on the accelerator and brake and that makes it too herky-jerky for me. So let’s say I’ll drive in the city and let others drive on the highway.

If you were handed free opera tickets, would you go or sell them? Why?

I’m a big fan of most opera so I’d go, absolutely. In my younger days I took advantage of a special promotional discount that L’Opera de Montreal used to offer to attract the under 30 crowd. I had a pair of season subscription tickets for at least three years.

I think we often don’t notice it or just take it for granted, but so much of the great music written throughout human history was actually written for Opera.

I’m not sure if 200 years from now anyone will be still listening to recordings by today’s pop stars, but I’m pretty sure that Nessun Dorma from Puccini’s Turandot will still be putting lumps in people’s throats. Please humor me and press play will you?

Also I believe that most people know more Opera than they realize. Hey, if you were a fan of Looney Toons/Bugs Bunny growing up, then you know a lot more Opera than you think.

Describe your own outlook on life in seven words or less. (NOTE:  does not necessarily have to be a sentence.)

Keep it simple, life is complicated enough.

Which would you prefer:  a wild, turbulent life filled with joy, sorrow, passion, and adventure–intoxicating successes and stunning setbacks; or a contented bordering on happy, secure, predictable life surrounded by friends and family without such wide swings of fortune and mood?

The roller coaster rides were fun when I was younger but as I got older I came to realize that being content didn’t necessarily mean life had to be boring. I’ll take a secure, predictable life with good friends and family over turbulence any day.
