Thursday Doors – November 26, 2020

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Feel free to join in on the fun by creating your own Thursday Doors post each week and then sharing your link in the comments below, anytime between Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time).

Au Revoir and Thanks For All The Doors!

First off: Happy Thanksgiving to all of our friends in the U.S.

Also, just a quick reminder door lovers: As mentioned in my post this past weekend, as of next Thursday December 3rd, you’ll find Thursday Doors over at Dan Antion’s place No Facilities.

For my last Thursday Doors post for the foreseeable future I thought it would be fun to step out of the back alleys and have a look at some of the front doors that can be found in Montreal’s colourful Plateau Mont Royal neighbourhood.

The Plateau is also the part of town containing the most street-art.

Even on the residential streets, people in this neighbourhood like to use colour as a way to stand out from the ordinary.

One of two major murals in the city dedicated to baseball legend Jackie Robinson for his connection to the city that gave him his start as the first African-American player to break that sport’s Major League colour barrier.

No door in this shot, just another impressive mural featuring a hometown favourite.

Leonard Cohen lived several blocks from the location of this mural.

Odd colour mix or maybe just the orange glow from the light reflecting back from across the street.

Speaking of across the street….

Variety is the spice of life, after all.

The shape of the window is what attracted me to this one.

Yes, the one under the balcony is as short as it looks.

And a few more highlighting the fun colour choices I mentioned earlier.

There’s so much to love about these ones that I decided they’d be a good place to stop.

To share your own Thursday Doors post don’t forget to paste your link in the comments section below. Remember: you have until noon eastern North American time on Saturday to add your link.

If you have time please do to take a few minutes to visit some of the Thursday Door posts shared by our other contributors.

On a more personal note I want to thank you all so much for your enthusiasm for our fun, silly little club, and also for your support over the past 6 years.

If and when we can all travel again, if you’re going to be in the Montreal area please feel free to reach out and let me know; if it’s at all possible I’ll be happy to meet up with a fellow door lover.

Until then: Take care everyone!

Norm 🙂

  3. Hello again, Norm 🙂
I like the reindeer curtain framed by the orange door very much.

I made time to write about Bran Castle and its doors 🙂 this week.

Thank you, Norm! Your years of posts have been my favorites, every week. Your doors have brought me joy and travel, architecture and color. Words aren’t enough thanks. This final post is beautiful and fun, a potpourri. I think your last photo was the best, with doors in the window of the doors. Very fitting for a finale! You will be missed. Please stay in touch.

Six years – oh my! You should get an award of some sort for keeping the tradition going for so long. In the blogging world that is a huge accomplishment and shows that you can if you want achieve anything you have your heart set on. I can’t believe I missed that Leonard Cohen mural but … another excuse to return to my favorite city.

Thank you for five years of Thursday Doors, Norm. Door quests inspired my exploration of many out of the way corners in Paris and elsewhere. Posts by other door-hunters have given me glimpses of far-flung towns and cities I will never visit. Who’d have thought taking photos of doors could be so life-enhancing!

Thanks for the kind words Judith. And you showed me so many cool places in and around Paris that I’ll probably never see…though I do hope to visit once the world returns to some semblance of normal. Take care and thanks for participating 🙂

  21. Ahh, Norm, your previous and this post teared me up, I’m not ashamed to admit. Thank you for all the doors and the colours and the humour and all the work that goes with hosting, but most of all for gathering as-if-random people into a community and keeping it tight.

Your last door spurred me to finish my post with the door hunk as well. Plus there is the anthem. All well to you and then, the sky is the limit. Merci!

Thank you so much Manja 😀
I’ve always believed that most people wherever they come from and whatever their background, have more in common with each other than we realize. It all starts by finding one thing we can all agree upon to get the ball rolling. I’m happy to know that many of those conversations here started with everyone agreeing, “Oh yeah, that REALLY IS a pretty door.”
      Take care.

  33. Beautiful parting shots, and a lovely different view of Montreal from what I’ve seen before. Thank you for bringing together this niche community. Perhaps you even created it; I would take photos of doors now and then, but became more regular only after discovering this community.

You gave us a lot of fun and beauty today, Norm. I love the notion that people would commit their doors or a big portion of their building to the goal of making others happy. We need that spirit, more than ever, at this time.

I have to add that I’ve always thought the large circular/curved staircases were a nice architectural element, but a bit scary, particularly in the winter. Seeing those long wooden stairs has changed my mind – those are scary looking on a nice clear day.

The doors in the final photo are simply magnificent. Those might be the best doors ever. The details in those doors makes me a little envious of the skill of the craftsmen who made them. I hope the owners take care of those doors forever.

Thank you for bringing us together in this community for the past many years. This has been fun, educational and a safe place to visit. No divisiveness, no politics, nothing scary; just fun and beauty from around the world. Thank you so much for passing the baton to me. I only hope I can do justice to the wonderful tradition you’ve established.

    Take care, Norm, Au Revoir.

Thank you Dan. I’m sure the long wooden stairs keep the emergency rooms almost as busy as the curved iron staircases 😀
Thanks for noticing the last ones, Lots of impressive details in them so I thought they’d be a good note to end on.
I think the fun, inclusive, informative, non-divisive nature of Thursday Doors is what makes it so enjoyable and I know you’re going to continue and probably improve on that tradition.
Take care my friend and have fun with it 🙂
