Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. More of Montréal’s Ruelles Vertes #5

This week brings us more explorations in yet another one of Montréal’s Green Laneways in the north central borough of St-Michel/Villeray.

No it’s not a door but I’d say this took a fair amount of both creativity and patience so I thought it was worth a share.

I love the light and shadows on this one.

TLC required.

Also not a door but way too cool not to share – back alleys are a great place for the kid’s version of Canada’s national pastime: street hockey. In a green laneway the biggest advantage over playing in the street is that they almost never have to stop for, “Car”!

A stash of spare sticks for both righties and lefties.

Frida! Woulda never taken her for a hockey fan 😉

I took a peek. This is where they store the nets and the goalie pads.

Plus a place to sit and watch the game.

Moving along, the whole idea of a door hidden behind a set of sliding doors was an interesting find.

Hopefully someone recognizes the need for a creative touch on this bland one.

I loved the little Zen touch in the lower part of this one.

    The hockey sticks are priceless! … and this is from someone who just doesn’t get the whole hockey hype thing. I think that part of my Canadian DNA is defective.
    I especially like the fact they’ve been divided between lefties and righties. What’s rather surprising is that the numbers appear to be about 50-50. I wouldn’t have guessed that would happen.

    I also love the little peek-a-boo window for the dog (or cat) in the garden door. This has to be the home of an animal lover 🙂

    Sliding doors, the zen touch, and hockey – wonderful! When I married and moved to New England I fell in love with hockey. Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe. No helmets, great skating.

    My TD post appears later and later, I’m worried. I don’t wish to stop doing them! I’ve got so many more doors to show. And your post is immediate happiness boost every week. This time doors come with hockey sticks and Frida and that lovely place to sit, all in lovely light.

      It seems that lately Thursdays roll around faster and faster so I find myself rushing a bit to get my own post done on time. Hopefully things will get back to normal ‘soon’ 🙂

    A big Canada fan … lived 1 year in Victoria (maybe I already mention it) and Montreal is on my bucket list. Only the doors in Montreal is a good reason for a visit. Now I’m going to look for some doors too.

      Thank you. No I don’t remember you mentioning living in Victoria. I’ve been to Vancouver a number of times but never had time to get over to the island. Hopefully I’ll fix that someday because I hear it’s so beautiful there 😉

    I love the door behind the door! A little extra privacy? Open the garage door for ventilation while still being secure? I also love the mural and the sport-watching bench.       Thanks. As I walk down these alleys in my explorations that sense of community comes through loud and clear. It’s quite encouraging to see in a big city full of concrete and asphalt.

    It’s amazing how frequently Frida appears as a street art subject. You might have to go back and smarten up some of those doors Norm. A few of them look quite neglected!

    I like the Zen door and the door behind the sliding doors. I also liked that I knew that the French with the street hockey sticks meant “Lefties” and “Righties” (more or less.) I guess if you can’t be on the ice, hockey in the streets is the next best thing. 🙂 I’m going old-school today:

    These are great, Norm. I wonder if that zen touch is for the dog’s benefit. I love the sad living doors in front of the door and I like the idea of kids playing street hockey. We have some kids at the end of our street who play. I usually turn opposite of them do they don’t have to move. It makes me feel good to see them having fun.

      Thanks Jean. Of course it would take a dog owner to immediately recognize a feature that was built for dogs. Yes, it suddenly seems so obvious now; that was almost certainly put there for a dog.

    Oh Norm, You are spoiling us with these posts. I am full of admiration that those hockey sticks are just left out for use. I can’t think of many cities in the UK where such trust would be repaid… the sticks would go missing in a jiffy. I rather like the TLC door – I have a soft spot for these.
