Thursday Doors – June 4, 2020

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Rural Doors on a Gray Dreary Day

My first legitimate doorscursion in over 2 months was a tentative one. I’m not quite brave enough to venture too far from home, mostly for fear of coming across too many people in too close quarters, so these were all found within a 20 minute drive from home.

Not many shots, and these doors are not super-fancy. On the plus side though, I did get out, and it sure felt good 🙂

As much as I love the dramatic glow of golden hour light, cloudy skies can make for diffused even lighting conditions that can produce excellent shots as well. Images with ‘even’ or ‘flat’ lighting let the actual subject speak to us more than the light.

Sometimes this is good and in this case I think it works quite nicely.

Gee was it ever fun to play with framing and foreground elements in composing my shots!

Turning the camera 90 degrees to look at things from a different perspective.

Stepping closer or moving around an obstacle to change the angle of the shot….

I had forgotten how much I enjoy getting out and trying to be creative using simple everyday rural scenery as my canvas.

As you can see, the rich greens of late spring and early summer are filling out the countryside in our part of the world. I find this just enhances that quiet country atmosphere of these shots.

It all reminded me of how much I enjoy this and now that the ice has been broken, so to speak, I’m already looking forward to my next planned outing very soon 🙂

    Yesterday when I was out for a quick walk after dinner, I noticed how rich the greens seemed to be compared to prior years. Is it just my imagination, or a function of a dismal spring and so much time in self-isolation? Whatever the reason, your photos also show that lushness.

    The first photo in particular really caught my eye for the ‘fence’ in the foreground and the tree in mid scene. This is exactly the type of scene that I would be inspired to paint.

      Thanks Joanne. It certainly seems like it’s a lot more this year, but I don’t know either, if it really is or if being cooped up so long is playing tricks on us. Either way it felt great to get out and explore 🙂

    There was one at my grandmother’s cottage when I was a kid. I never asked why or who papered the inside walls with pictures of naked women. Still wondering…

    Ah yes, the contrast between the weathered buildings and the lush greenery is quite stunning! I could practically hear the excitement in your words. Glad you’re getting out and about, and back into experimenting with photography!

    Glad you ventured our comfortably Norm. I stewed and fretted on Palm Sunday, trying to decide whether to return to the Park where I walk daily, and after much angst, I returned, masked up but without the camera. When I finally took the plunge and took the digital compact, it was the day they closed the Park (May 1st) and just opened a couple of days ago. My health concerns are not yours, but I still went there and any other Park with much trepidation. I like these shots – they are very peaceful, even that change of camera angle exposing the outhouse. 🙂

    Great shots, Norm. I love the soft light of a gray day – no hard shadows or sun flairs. It looks like the perfect area to get some fresh air and ensure social distancing (I hope you didn’t use the outhouse 🙂 ).

    Oh Norm, I’m so glad to see that you had a peek around and enjoyed the doors once again as if for the first time. I love the doors, but all the greenery even more. Here yellows are winning over already.

      Thanks Manja. It was a good gentle re-introduction to being away from the house. I can’t tell you how good it felt just to be outside and not looking over my shoulder every 15 seconds to make sure no one was too close.

    I ventured out today but didn’t notice any doors, just trees and rats. I’ve some doors from a couple of years ago.

      Thanks Jean. Oh yes it actually felt liberating to be out and being in a rural environment meant I could relax and not spend half my time looking over my should and worrying if someone was coming along who might crowd my 2 metre bubble 🙂

    Hopefully by this time you have no literal ice to break either! I really like the first shot. The bit of wooden fence does the trick. Glad you’re able to get out a bit. I’ve been out for groceries, to walk, and help at my parents’ house but other than that, no real trips.
