Thursday Doors – April 2, 2020

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Italian Leftovers

As the world continues to hunker down in place I did a little digging through my archives to see what I had left in the way of unused doors. For some reason I seem to have overlooked a few real beauties from our visit to the old ruins of San Galgano Abbey in Tuscany.

    Italy and its beautiful architecture. Interesting photo, third one down, how the bricks are horizontal, like a slash. Do you think it was some type of repair Norm?

    Ahh, Norm, thank you for the memories and these photos with the best light of all the hours of all the days. I wish to be that cat.

    I had to write a poem about a house. I immediately knew which house it would be but then I remembered I had no idea what kind of doors it had. This is how I solved it:

      Thanks Manja. You know I didn’t even notice that cat until I started selecting my images and working on this post a few days ago 😀
      He/she certainly seems to be enjoying the warm light as much as we did – smart cat.

    That very last photo with the soft glow of the setting sun makes me feel comfort and subtle joy. seeing the bricks matching that polished wooden door gives it a homey yet sophisticated air to the facade.

    I actually found some old slides of Italy – from Luca and the Cinque Terre. But I have no idea how to transfer slides to digital. You got some great lighting on a few of these pics – particularly the last one! So pretty. Makes me feel calm.

    The brick and stonework in that third photo is something else. The door is nice, but the rest of the building is remarkable.

      Thanks Ally. As the hour advanced into early evening I remember being fascinated by the way the warm glow of light kept deepening on that building. There were at least few dozen other people there but it was so quiet and so peaceful 🙂

      Thanks Marian. I think diagonal bricks may be filling in an opening left in the wall from an old stone ledge or perhaps some sort of an awning. Whatever the case, it sure does stand out.
