Italian Leftovers

As the world continues to hunker down in place I did a little digging through my archives to see what I had left in the way of unused doors. For some reason I seem to have overlooked a few real beauties from our visit to the old ruins of San Galgano Abbey in Tuscany.

You can see my original post of our visit there with our wonderful hosts Manja, Marco, and Fonsie right here and you can also see Manja’s original take on that same visit here.

In the meantime here are the shots that for various reasons didn’t make the cut and were not included in my original post:

Oh that warm glow of the late day Tuscan sun…sigh 🙂

To share your own Thursday Doors post this week just paste your link in the comments section below so that others can visit and have a look at your discoveries. Remember: you have until noon eastern North American time on Saturday to add your link.

While you’re here please do take the time to visit some of the Thursday Doors posts shared by our other contributors by clicking on the links you’ll find below.

Thanks for looking 🙂

Italy and its beautiful architecture. Interesting photo, third one down, how the bricks are horizontal, like a slash. Do you think it was some type of repair Norm?

  11. Ahh, Norm, thank you for the memories and these photos with the best light of all the hours of all the days. I wish to be that cat.

I had to write a poem about a house. I immediately knew which house it would be but then I remembered I had no idea what kind of doors it had. This is how I solved it:

Thanks Manja. You know I didn’t even notice that cat until I started selecting my images and working on this post a few days ago 😀
He/she certainly seems to be enjoying the warm light as much as we did – smart cat.

  12. That very last photo with the soft glow of the setting sun makes me feel comfort and subtle joy. seeing the bricks matching that polished wooden door gives it a homey yet sophisticated air to the facade.

I actually found some old slides of Italy – from Luca and the Cinque Terre. But I have no idea how to transfer slides to digital. You got some great lighting on a few of these pics – particularly the last one! So pretty. Makes me feel calm.

Assuming there’ll be a chance to go back one day, Cinque Terre is on the bucket list for sure. That must have been a wonderful trip 🙂

The brick and stonework in that third photo is something else. The door is nice, but the rest of the building is remarkable.

Thanks Ally. As the hour advanced into early evening I remember being fascinated by the way the warm glow of light kept deepening on that building. There were at least few dozen other people there but it was so quiet and so peaceful 🙂

Gorgeous buildings in that golden sunlight! What’s the deal with the parallel diagonal brickwork? Whatever the story, I’m utterly charmed by the old stone and brick. My doors this week are not so grand. https://marianallen.com/2020/04/socially-distanced-doors-thursdaydoors/

    • Norm 2.0 says:

Thanks Marian. I think diagonal bricks may be filling in an opening left in the wall from an old stone ledge or perhaps some sort of an awning. Whatever the case, it sure does stand out.

  28. These are marvelous photos, appealing to me because I love old masonry and stonework. Your third photo from the top is my favorite — color, structure, curve, etc. Thanks for posting. I’d love to visit Tuscany someday . . . but until then I can enjoy your pictures and dream.

National Poetry Month has started. We’re on day 2. Today I combined a door photo and the #NaPoWriMo prompt and created a poem from there. Here it is: https://unassortedstories.wordpress.com/2020/04/02/she-of-next-door/
