Thursday Doors – March 19, 2020

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Miscellaneous Montréal Doors Part #2

Continuing on last week’s doorscursion here are some more assorted doors and street-art.

I hope this one opens inwards otherwise no one’s getting out of there

A stainless-steel exterior door is a rare sight.

A lovely corner door in need of a fresh coat of paint.

We keep telling him not to eat the dirty snow…but he doesn’t listen 😀

Why does it feel like graffiti and back alley garage doors just seem to go together?

This is one of my favourite pieces of street-art just off the Plaza St-Hubert pedestrian mall.

An empty shop in the same area 😦

I couldn’t resist snapping this one while it was sitting at a red light in front of me. It’s just as silly in English: “I crack for my plumber” 😀

Note: Since Thursday Doors is partly about discoveries we make during our travels, and a LOT about being outdoors in populated areas taking pictures, both of which are things we should all be limiting right now, I’m debating whether or not to put this weekly challenge on temporary hiatus – at least until it’s deemed safe for most of us on this planet to go outside again to play.

    I love the closed shop’s gray door best — but the dog and the dirty snow made me laugh! I think most doorers (even me) have some stored doors, and while I doubt people will be out collecting new ones, the unfortunate respite may actually allow people time to post what they have (even me, maybe).

    I loved the street art and murals – Goofy made me smile. Why is all the snow so dirty? Is it end-of-Winter snow? Even though I’ve only contributed once, I think as long as folks have pics stored up, so keep it going? From the looks of things over here in the States, there may not be doorscursions or excursions of any type for a long while. You sure are lucky you went to Italy when you did Norm.

      Thanks Linda. Yes as the snow starts to melt the dirt, pollution, and solids mixed in with it become more visible. Thank goodness for spring rains to wash all the crud away.
      Yes the timing of our Italy trip seems pretty good right about now. I doubt there’ll be a chance to go back again for a while. Stay safe 🙂

        It seemed to be an abnormal amount of dirt/soot, etc. – that’s why I asked. We had really not much snow at all after last year’s overabundance of it and when it snowed, it melted pretty quickly as we had above-normal temperatures a lot of the Winter. The weather is very wacky here.

        Poor Italy – you read the news stories and feel for them. You stay safe too Norm.

    Love your varied selection this week Norm. The street art is brilliant. I would hate to see Thursday Doors suspended but I understand if it has to be. I have so many stored up over the past few months they would probably see me through till summer.     There are a lot of doors in my house. Of course they all look alike so that might get old! But, who knows, I may snap a door on a walk or driving by the river (which I do every few days to see the trees and the water since the ocean people said to stay away). Enjoyed yours. I’ve never seen a plumber’s crack in French. And I’m drooling over the snow. We didn’t get ANY this year. Y’all hogged it all.

    Opinion, As long as I have a stash of archived doors, I’m in. But I won’t encourage anyone to step out of their safety net. Worth remembering that “This too shall pass”. And a heads up that in April I’m doing the AtoZChallenge so I’ll just be a visitor during that time. Good of you to be concerned for us all. All my best to every participant and their loved ones and just Stay Safe!

    Love the doors. I was surprised to learn that the plumber’s crack is a world-wide thing and even has it’s own category in stock photos. Wow. Thanks for making my day ever so brighter!

    Do you think the artist who painted Goofy did so thinking the snow pile would add to the image? I think you should keep on going with the doors unless it’s too much.

    Honestly, I wasn’t in the mood today at all to go through my archives to find doors. I have gathered some though and will be posting them later or tomorrow, but I wouldn’t mind if you call a break. The circumstances are a bit special. If the majority is in favour of going on, I don’t mind that either. I haven’t gone through other comments yet.

    I love your doors and street art and especially that you ended with a smile-cracker. 😀

    All well to both of you, and as I said I will post a bit later. It will pass. Today it was already too hot fort my lightest coat.

      Sadly I don’t think we are even close to seeing the worst of this situation. We’re all going to have good days and bad day through all of this craziness. But we will get through this, of that I have no doubt. And in the meantime I’m just glad for all my door buddies to keep me a bit distracted 🙂

    Some really outstandig doors here Norm and your street art pictures will always be appreciated here. Love the derelict shop door and in particular the panel at the bottom that looks like a fairly shoddy repair or a cat flap.

    In the UK we have not yet (as of this hour) been confined to quarters, but I suspect it is coming.

    I have lots of doors in a door archive, and could get creative goinng through old slides and things, and I’m sure many other doorsters have the same – maybe we could continue with oldies and re-runs. It is not really for me to influence too much as I’ve been a bit absent in recent weeeks.

    Oh, the blue door is so cute. And in terms of an illustration, the painted lady is certainly worth the view! Since you are heading this, it is up to you, and what is the best for you, not only in this pandemiic, but also the time you spend in the cold. Of course, that is if you have run out of doors in your archives. A possibility would be to shorten your post to one or two, not related doors?

    I love these doors and the street art! The corner blue door is lovely, even though it could use some paint (hopefully they don’t change the color). I vote to continue TD if you can. I have a lot of doors in my archives and, now, a lot of time on my hands to curate them.

    Hi Norm, so winter is on its retreat by the looks of it (or at least the snow is). That van photo sure is funny, but my favorite is the one just above that of the empty shop. Although this pandemic kept me from photographing the doors I wanted, don’t most of us have enough doors in their archives to keep this running? Anyways, here’s my door for this week

    The one with the huge streetart is my favorite!
    Most of my doors are collected over the years, so it doesn’t matter if I can go out or not. For me it is a highlight to look at all the different doors, it would be very sad if you don’t continue. But of course – up to you!     Love these doors and the sight of all that snow piled near some of them. We just don’t get snow much anymore in Knoxville, Tennessee, so it’s a welcome sight. I think you should continue Thursday Doors, but perhaps I’m just being selfish. I like looking at them even though I know it’s hard work to pick the best and write about them.

    Happy Thursday, Norm. I vote to continue. Most of my posts are from my files, so it doesn’t matter whether or not I can get out. I like your favorite street art and that blue corner door (not saying I don’t like the rest, of course.) The plumber’s van “art” reminds me of a very old Saturday Night Live sketch with Dan Ackroyd as the plumber whose pants were always in a very precarious position when he bent over.

    That first door is very warm and welcoming. I love the big smile and the giant mural is fantastic.
    I vote for keeping the challenge going. Perhaps we can think a little wider in our door interpretations, and certainly hunt the archives.

    Great doors, and street art, Norm. I got a good chuckle from the plumber’s truck. The tired door on the closed shop is a visual metaphor for these times. It’s very sad, but you can see the beauty that was once on display.

    I vote to continue, albeit I will be sharing fewer doors. I think it’s worth getting together to share something we have in common, and to cheer each other. I won’t be purposefully seeking out new doors, but I hope to feature a few drive-by photos. The choice is yours, and if you do decide to take a break, I will return when you give the all clear.

    Some good street art there, but my favourite is the faded purple corner door.

    I think I need a lot of distraction during the coming weeks. It’ll be very helpful if you can keep this going. I enjoy what I see here, and the little conversations. I can certainly dig into my archives for doors if need be, and I’m sure that many others can also do it.

    In my country we’re allowed to go out for walks to keep fit and healthy if we don’t walk too close. Yesterday I’ve actually taken the first photos in a long, long time! But I know it’s different in different places.

    I think we need community in these difficult time, so for me, one of the questions would be: is this a community that’s helpful for us? If so, can we keep meeting without posting new doors? Old photos, Photos on the web that are free to use, daily life photos (in-doors…)?
