Thursday Doors – March 5, 2020

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Snowy Saint-Placide, Québec

On the shores of the Ottawa River, west of Montréal in the lower Laurentian county of Deux Montagnes (Two Mountains) you’ll find the lovely little community of Saint-Placide.

It’s a peaceful touristy waterfront community of about 2000 that in the summer becomes a hub of activity for recreational sailing, windsurfing, kite-surfing, and boating enthusiasts.

We took a drive to the area last weekend expecting it to be a scouting trip for a potential summer doorscursion. As you can see from these shots, winter is far from over in this part of the world and with the lovely snowy scenery I managed to capture a number of interesting shots.

I’m guessing that the river will be frozen solid for another few weeks, so ice fishing, snowmobiling, and kite-skiing are still in season.

Some crazies even drive their vehicles right out onto the ice. I guess it beats hauling supplies and fishing gear out onto the ice on foot…at least as long as your vehicle doesn’t end up going through the ice of course 😉

People taking chances on ice reminds me of my old post showing the ice-climbers I captured a few years ago at Montmorency Falls near Québec City: fun for those who enjoy that sort of thing, but just not the kind of risks that I’m willing to take.

When you turn away from shore the first thing you notice is how, as usual, the church managed to snag themselves some of the best prime real-estate in town.

Upon closer inspection I found it to be a simple building with a lovely old stone facade and some nice doors.

We wandered around a bit and found a few other nice old homes and doors that were worth stopping to admire.

I’ll definitely be heading back here when the weather gets warmer and I can take the time for a longer more enjoyable stroll around the area.
