Pretty in the City – Montréal

Here’s another collection from my doorscursion in last week’s post in my old hood Rosemont/Petite Patrie in Montréal. I’m sure you’ll agree these are prettier and more colourful, plus there’s some fun street art thrown in as well.

Yes there’s a door in there…

Ah! There it is 🙂

No door on this one but I’d love it someone who understands this stuff could explain it to me 😀

What could be more uplifting on a cold winter day than a bright yellow porch and door? We actually got two more dumpings of snow since this image was taken. When I drove past earlier this week the snow was up to the top of the stairs.

The French flag with the yellow star of the sea aka Stella Maris – star of the Virgin Mary – patron saint of the Acadians, on the upper left corner. Safe to assume this is someone whose ancestors came from the Acadian colonies on the east coast of Canada.

If you’re interested, a few years ago I wrote a bit about the tragic history of the Acadians after a visit to Annapolis Royal in Nova Scotia in this post here.

I’m still trying to figure out what those add-ons are to the pretty door on the left

This one was pretty enough that I really wanted to go up the stairs and move the brown compost collection bin out of the shot but…I don’t want to set a bad example for the rest of our door lovers by getting myself arrested for trespassing 😉

More unrelated to doors but lovely street art that jumped out at me from a snowy alley.

Pretty decorative doors to an old meeting hall that was associated with a long-gone Anglican church in the neighbourhood. Today the building is owned by a private spa and wellness clinic.

And we’ll finish this one off with a few more splashes of colour.

With more snow in the short-term forecast I’m thinking we could use all the colour we can get.

As always I thank you for looking 🙂

Hi Norm! It occurred to me recently that I very rarely come here and comment on your doors. Bad fan! Anyhow…

I love the color of your doors (beating the winter snow blahs) and the street art. Every community needs cool street art.

That cow/ox thing? My guess is it has four tails to keep the flies away and some sort of really pretty alien attached to its midsection to attract birds. It must be part of a royal family that welcomes the weird and wonderful. Kind of like the blogging community. ;-p

Knowing where to put a compost bin must be a challenge in a large city. I could use a wellness clinic this week! Stealing a week off after a bout with strep. le yuck!

I looooove the old Anglican church doors. So pretty, curvy, shiny, and OLD 🙂 I also really like the bright yellow and maybe strangely, the steps on the brick house.– all those shades — I barely even saw the bin 😉 Nicely done.

Well you’ve got some absolutely brilliant urban doors there, every one a winner. Of course I have favourites… Regarding the street art, there is no explanation. Artists like people sometimes gravitate to the symbolic and their stories can be unfathomable (best to try and ask them) others are literal and will write a name or paint a cat or something, but there is little or no meaning, just a pretty picture. You certainly have some talented street artists in Montréal.

Thanks Stephen. Yes there a lots of wonderful murals here thanks to a number of talented artists. In the summer especially, certain neighbourhoods are best explored on foot in order to fully appreciate some of the art that’s there to be found.

  27. I’d paint my front door a bright color if our neighborhood association would allow it! It’s pouring here today, but 63 was our low last night. According to our meteorologist our plants are 20 days ahead of schedule! Our grass was mowed yesterday too! That first door was all but invisible until you pointed it out! The splashes of color were lovely. I wonder if those doors are the same colors inside as out? 30. I’m loving all the color, street art, doors, or a combination of both. We got snow last night and it’s still snowing, although no accumulation like what you have. I’m planning to go out for a walk once it gets light and it should be beautiful, but there won’t be much color other than white and brown. 🙂

I like that first door/street art combo, the bright yellow, and the decorative doors. At least those are my favorites. My doors are from my last short trip to Philadelphia:

Wonderful colorful doors, Norm. Very little of that snow has made it down here. It’s a dull brown winter for us, so I really liked the popping bits of color, especially the street art.

I got washed out and busy’d out of a doorscurrsion so I ran with a few gift doors today. https://nofacilities.com/2020/02/13/almost-all-in-fun-thursdaydoors/

Splendid graffiti/murals Norm. I do love this kind of graffiti as opposed to just spraying your sign, preferably over someone else’s artwork.
