Thursday Doors – February 6, 2020

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Feel free to join in on the fun by creating your own Thursday Doors post each week and then sharing your link in the comments below, anytime between Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time).

Gritty in the City – Montréal

Here’s a collection of doors in need of a little TLC in my old hood Rosemont/Petite Patrie in Montréal.

To jog your memory, back in 2016 I did a post about the ornate outdoor iron staircases found in this part of town that you can check out here.

This time however I decided to concentrate on one specific east/west street.

Rue St. Zotique is one of those streets that morphs from light commercial, where it starts in the heart of little Italy, into moderately dense residential as it head east.

This post contains a lot of the western part where you’ll find a lot of trendy little restaurants, small boutiques and shops.

Generally speaking I find that active commercial buildings have relatively boring doors, therefore the ones I chose for this post are the closed/boarded up ones, like this closed down yoga studio.

I’ve always had a thing for corner doors so finding two like this is even more fun 😉

Double-stacked corner doors – bonus!

With all the car exhaust in the city, that pristine white snow you see in the movies doesn’t stay so pristine for very long. Whenever there’s a bit of a thaw, it actually gets rather yucky.

Don’t eat the dirty snow

This next one seems to be screaming: “PAINT ME!”

This one is probably too far gone to be saved.

And my favourite shot of this doorscursion is also I do believe a first for me – triple-stacked corner doors!

Stay tuned; next week I’ll have some of the pretty ones I found on this same outing.

Until then I thank you for stopping in 🙂

Corner doors are fab. I love the yoga studio for its contrast. I dig the vibe of the whole post 🙂

Graffiti makes me crazy. It is ugly, it is destructive, and particularly upsetting when I see it on brick like in the last photo. A triple corner door is a major coup! … and the building with its interesting brick work is also noteworthy.

I hear you about the graffiti. I just don’t understand the thought process of someone who thinks it’s okay to do this. Especially when there’s no artistic aspect to it; then it’s simply vandalism.

You found a lot of character!! I love the triple-stacked corner doors. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that.

  4. I love corner doors as well and doors with lots of character. Great finds, Norm!

  7. I’m glad that you’ve got eyes for such doors too, Norm, even though in Italy, at least, graffitied doors are not your favourites. But as I see it, everybody needs doors in their lives.

I’ve got a wonderful villa for you which Flavia and I visited last month. My post includes a link to her Capalbio doors post from today which you must see. There is bestia too! It goes around! 🙂

  9. Great set of doors this week! I agree that most modern doors are boring. Metal and glass… yawn.

The grey door which needs to be painted once was a beautiful door – you are right – some coats of paints would bring it back to its former glory! https://wp.me/p9EWyp-1HK

  13. Agree about the 3 stacked and I also think the door with the awning could be beautiful with a coat of paint

An interesting set of doors that seem in need of some love. I like them all in their own ways. I have to ask: who was St. Zotique? Nice name, but I’ve no idea who he or she was.

Now we’re talking. I love these doors. Neglected for sure, but reflecting a whole sub-culture that many of us choose to ignore or consider threatening. Part of a rich urban diversity without which we are all impoverished.

And I now have to look up St. Zotique. In Dutch the word ‘zot’ means crazy, which I guess is not how this saint is named.

  19. I enjoyed this collection. The two corner doors look great. I also liked the recessed red door with all the graffiti.

Thanks Janet. It’s a bit of a high turnover part of town for small shops and restaurants. The yoga studio building is actually slated for demolition; it’ll be interesting to see what ends up getting built on that lot.

Wow, a triple play! That’s great! The one screaming, “Paint me!” is gorgeous. I hope it gets some TLC before it, too, is too far gone for help. I’m posting random doors from my little town, collected last spring. https://marianallen.com/2020/02/corydoors-around-and-about-thursdaydoors-2/

  26. Love the ‘corner’ buildings. My Aunt and Uncle lived in one, and I always loved the shapes of the rooms. Clint looked pretty good in that poster too. 🙂 Happy Thursday, Norm. https://newenglandgardenandthread.wordpress.com/2020/02/06/thursday-doors-131/

What a great trip, Norm. I love corner doors, and double and triple corner doors are a sweet bonus! The door that piques my imagination the most is the one screaming “paint me.” I msgine that door painted in some lovely arrangement or colors.
