Thursday Doors – August 8, 2019

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. A Few Doors in Kingston, Ontario

On the eastern edge of Lake Ontario at the mouth of the St. Lawrence Seaway, a little more than halfway between Montreal and Toronto you’ll find the town of Kingston.

With a population close to 150,000 it is a fair-sized small city. Being at the heart of the Thousand Islands region I knew it was a pretty waterfront town of historical significance and lots of interesting things for visitors to discover, but I have to admit that up until now Kingston was always the town I’d drive past on my way to somewhere else; usually Toronto.

Recently I got to take a few days to  actually stop and explore Kingston. I was more than pleasantly surprised with what I found, so much so that I’m already looking to go back for more.

Here’s a quick peek and some of the lovely homes and interesting architecture in Kingston’s old historical district.

    Bonanza! I don’t know if I’d rather stay in the haunted inn and look out at the castle, or stay in the castle and look out at the haunted inn!

    Hi Norm,
    There’s some incredible architecture there, Norm and that supposedly haunted inn reminds me of something straight out of the Addams Family.
    My post this week is a Street Library at Pearl Beach, just North of Sydney Australia and about a 15 minute drive from home.

    Lovely photos of doors; some look like attached to castles but they are from other beautiful buildings.

    I’m traveling and it took me some effort to learn how to post from my iPhone but hopefully this works. My delayed post.

    This was well worth the trip! It may be a small town, but rich in doors and buildings.With the climbing plants, and pillars and porches to give extra touches! These are all stunning – impossible to choose a favorite:)

    What a beautiful town and gorgeous doors! How nice that you were able to explore it more. I love that not only does the church welcome everyone, it placed the services sign in a lower, less conspicuous position so it didn’t mar your door picture. 🙂

    Your third and fourth photos are my favorite, I adore greenery growing on or near doorways. I find it very inviting, but I know there can be issues with this as well. I recently had some growing vines removed from house, sigh, that I loved but they had to go. Better off without them, but they sure were pretty. I enjoyed my walk around Kingston this morning, thanks Norm!

      Thank you Denise. Yes, I hadn’t thought of it that way but you’re right; sometimes things growing on walls is not a good thing for the building and can lead to expensive repairs down the road.

    The first words that came to mind were “delightful and enchanting!” I love brick and stone houses, and the ivy growing on the buildings is stunning. I want to go see for myself someday! =)

    Like you, Norm, I have to admit I’ve never spent much time in Kingston even though it’s fairly close. I’ve usually sailed in and sailed out without much of a nod but now I’m thinking I’ve really missed something worth seeing. This entire neighbourhood you’ve walked through looks gorgeous. The doors say it all.

    You KNOW I love the mini-castle, and the rainbow stairs, but my favourite is the door-in-a-door flanked by doors. You hit the jackpot!!

    These are amazing doors, Norm. I love the arched door with the curved bottom to the arched transom. That flows so well, it really is more a work of art than functional. The door within a door is perfectly done, and the other wooden doors make me smile. The mini castle is quite an amazing building. The church is very nice, and nice to see it so welcoming. I think the crown jewel today is the haunted inn. Interestingly enough, I have a supposedly haunted building in my group today. They’re over here:
