This Week in the Garden – August 3, 2019

One photo and a few words every Saturday about something interesting I find in our vegetable garden.

This week: Hot peppers just about ready to ripen

Thanks for looking 🙂

Who knew there were so many shades of green and look at that pepper all curled up! Last week I was visiting a botanical garden and out back of it they have the City’s community gardens. Some people buy plots for $25.00 apiece and grow fruits and veggies and some flowers and the rest of the plots are tended to by the prisoners who do community service and they give the bounty to the local food kitchens. I found a cabbage there the size of a basketball!

Will these stay green or turn red? Interesting that yours are doing so well. I have a friend who said her peppers are a complete bust this year.

Do I predict a little salsa in your future? 🙂

They look fab. Fresh peppers are so nice cos they seem to have taste as well as heat.

I spice up my homemade sauces and salsa with these babies…used in moderation of course, because they do add a lot of kick 😉

I usually grow chillies, but my last crop was sooooo hot, they’re almost inedible (at least for a softie like me). I found a couple of bags in the freezer the other day. A case of hope triumphing over common sense I think.

We have got them as well in my garden. The other day I tried one, took a little tiny bite. I nearly had to cancel an evening appointment after that! Never had something like that on my tongue, I was coughing and could hardly breathe any more, even the finger scratching the seeds out was painful until next day. 😉
But when they are cooked its ok. I like spicy food, but I will never try a raw one of those hell peppers again. 😉

I only use to spice up in my homemade salsa, otherwise I let them simmer mixed into sauces. I’d never eat one raw or it would be a visit to the emergency room 😀
