A Few Doors in Vieux Montréal Before Running Off To Join The Circus

Right day, wrong time. Sorry for the delay folks. Somehow when I was scheduling this post I managed to overlook the time it was supposed to go live.

Living in the burbs we don’t go into town for entertainment as often as we used to. When we saw that hometown heros, Cirque du Soleil were bringing a revamped version of one of their first big shows, Alegria, back to the Old Port after 25 years on tour, we thought it would be a good excuse for a date night in town.

The fact that we saw this show together during our first summer of dating helped give the outing a warm nostalgic feeling; which is to say it made us feel old 😀

Regardless of the reason, an opportunity to stroll the streets of Old Montreal and its Old Port in summer is a wonderful way to spend an evening with someone special.

One thing they didn’t have when we did this 25 years ago was the big Ferris wheel, La Grande Roue.

So of course we had to give that a whirl just for the amazing views of downtown.

And where we’d be going after dinner.

The Cirque’s New Blue and White Bigtop

Here’s hoping these doors don’t open unexpectedly – it’s a loooong way down.

Hey look! A double row of warehouse shed doors by the old docks.

Back on the ground we wandered around the old city which celebrated it’s 375th birthday about 2 years ago – pretty old by North American standards.

The Dome of Marché Bonsecours

Of course we found a few lovely old, and not so old doors, worth capturing.

Pointe-à-Callière Museum

Now if you’ll excuse us we’re going in; the show is about to start.

And yes the show was amazing. They’re taking it back on tour from here at the end of July, so if they end up touring anywhere near you I’d highly recommend you check it out if you can.

As always I thank you for stopping in 🙂

  1. cool pictures from the Ferris wheel. nice doors too. I saw my first Cirque du Soliel in person a few years ago in Las Vegas with my fiance. It was called Ka. I loved it. I used to watch the shows on tv. I would love to see another show and go to Las Vegas again.

Montreal is so beautiful and photogenic, as I remember from a two-day visit there last fall. And I remember it had some awesome old doors! You are lucky to be able to catch Cirque du Soleil’s show Alegria! I would love to see it some time! Meanwhile, I just got back from Europe and…some wonderful door photos!

Don’t have any doors this week – but enjoyed yours! When we were in the Old Town in October there weren’t too many flowers so it was nice to see that area in bloom.

  17. Hihi, right day, wrong time? 😀 What did you do? I see that a nice night on the town messed with your head. 😉 It’s so great you two got to relive an early date. ❤ You got to be tourists in your own backyard. That photo of you catches the spirit so well! And I love the doors and the fact that you didn't forget about them (but how could you!).

I was earlier than you today when posting anyway, because I had to travel for most of the day. I'm back in Slovenia and here is my second door post from the major Slovenian port town, but you wouldn't know it from this photos. Nothing industrial about them:

I’m sorry for not getting your post on earlier. I totally messed up the scheduling of themy post, then I had to run an early morning errand and when I finally got back in I realized my post still had not gone live yet. Basically, I was late for my own party 😀
Yes we got to stroll down memory lane and it was a fun day and evening spent with very special company.

Great images of a lovely outing on a summer night! A great job at catching the ambience, even with the doors. LOVE the white doors – so painterly. Great sights of the fairytale tents. Le Cirgue du Soleil came many times in Los Angeles (where I lived at the time) , but evening was my study- and later my work time.

What a wonderful date! I get queasy at the tops of Ferris wheels and such, but maybe I wouldn’t, if the seat is enclosed. I must be an Earth Mother or sumpin. Here’s my post, with special guest Joey: http://marianallen.com/2019/07/two-shapiros-and-a-joey-thursdaydoors/

I was starting to wonder what happened to you this morning. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you late to your own party 😉

Cirque du Soleil has been a favourite of ours since its very early days. We used to catch it every summer either here in Toronto or in Quebec City. Now the ticket prices are a little too pricey and we haven’t gone in a few years.

No, this was the first time I was late to my own party. Kind of embarrassing actually 😀
Cirque has produced some incredible shows over the years and we’ve been lucky to see most of them. You’re right though, tickets are not cheap. Lately they seem to have made some changes to their pricing structure to make it more accessible for families.

  36. The doors are lovely and so European. I really like the POV on the shot of the Ferris wheel. As for scheduling the right time or forgetting to schedule it, I’ve done it before more times than I’d like to admit. Happy Thursday!
