A Few Doors in Vieux Montréal Before Running Off To Join The Circus

Right day, wrong time. Sorry for the delay folks. Somehow when I was scheduling this post I managed to overlook the time it was supposed to go live.

Living in the burbs we don’t go into town for entertainment as often as we used to. When we saw that hometown heros, Cirque du Soleil were bringing a revamped version of one of their first big shows, Alegria, back to the Old Port after 25 years on tour, we thought it would be a good excuse for a date night in town.

The fact that we saw this show together during our first summer of dating helped give the outing a warm nostalgic feeling; which is to say it made us feel old 😀

Regardless of the reason, an opportunity to stroll the streets of Old Montreal and its Old Port in summer is a wonderful way to spend an evening with someone special.

One thing they didn’t have when we did this 25 years ago was the big Ferris wheel, La Grande Roue.

So of course we had to give that a whirl just for the amazing views of downtown.

And where we’d be going after dinner.

Here’s hoping these doors don’t open unexpectedly – it’s a loooong way down.

Hey look! A double row of warehouse shed doors by the old docks.

Back on the ground we wandered around the old city which celebrated it’s 375th birthday about 2 years ago – pretty old by North American standards.

Of course we found a few lovely old, and not so old doors, worth capturing.

Now if you’ll excuse us we’re going in; the show is about to start.

And yes the show was amazing. They’re taking it back on tour from here at the end of July, so if they end up touring anywhere near you I’d highly recommend you check it out if you can.
