Shabby Chic in Rome – Part #1

Hey, we can’t all be beauty pageant winners right?

Here’s a series of neglected and abused, or perhaps worn and weathered doors, all in need of love and affection, that were found on a couple of doorscursions in Rome.

They may not be the prettiest but as with most people, you’ll find that charm, character, and personality more than makes up for a less than perfect appearance.

Don’t you just wish you could give them all a big hug?

    I would like to hug them figuratively, they look a lil pokey and hard for literal hugs 😉 They’re fabulous. I was very impressed with 11 and 12 but then 3, ah 3, that one has it all. Do you suppose Rome has THE best doors of any city, ever? It seems so. It really does. Guess you should keep traveling and find out!

      Thanks Joey. From what I have seen here Paris, Prague, Lisbon and Tallinn all seem to give Rome some solid competition when it comes to doors. You’re right though, I’d love to keep travelling to find out for myself. Like many, time and money are the biggest obstacles for me.

      Yeah that’s what I tell my lower back and my knees every morning when I try to get out of bed without making too many snap, crackle, and pop noises 😀

    Rome is such a lovely place for shabby chic. I specially like the second photo, of the man passing in front of the door, between two parked cars, deep in thought.

    I like your third door, Norm, it has two numbers associated with it. Wondering which the owner uses but I vote for the house number in the arch above the door. I like the funky font!

      Thanks Denise. I’ve have no way knowing for sure but I was under the impression that the number above the door might be the year of construction…which would make this a really really old building.

    Hey Norm – lovely Rome doors and I really liked this quote from you (omg is it encouraging)

    and the first two photos are my fav for the bit of extras with the doors.
    The first one – the elegant black dress – the dash of graffiti, and the radiating door top – nice comp.
    then the second one has the man – giving nice street photography flavor – but his presence gives us scale for the door – and wow – in between two gray cars like that – with bent leg – jacket and bag matched the cars – this is a money shot.

    Some of these have a substantial amount of character. The only one I don’t like, is the one where it appears they cut smaller doors out of the larger ones. I hate to see doors cut.

    Naturally I love them all, Norm, especially the one with the little doors within the larger ones. Shabby chic works so well in Europe. That first one must have something going for it, as it apparently has a rather chic girlfriend, albeit a headless one. 🙂
