Hello friends and welcome to 2019. I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday and/or New Year’s break, and that 2019 lives up to all of your hopes and expectations.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of the amazing door discoveries you’ll be making this year. As for me, I have some interesting doorscursions planned for 2019 but for the moment I’m still sorting through my 2018 archives and finding many previously unshared beauties that you just have to see.
These ones are from a day we spent exploring the various towns and villages on the Amalfi Coast of Italy.
Of course there’d have to be a few church doors in the bunch, this is Italy after all 🙂
And when it’s not churches it’s ceramics shops…
or fancy gates…
or insanely narrow and steep old stairways.
Even the ones in need of TLC a lovely in the right light.

That blue and turquoise stairway up to the little wooden door is absolutely captivating. Gorgeous Amalfi doors!

All exquisite, some with intricate detail, but that first one? The green door with the paintings outside? Love the simplicity of the arch surrounding the door, love the door itself.
Was it a shop of some kind? With the paintings outside like that?

I know what you mean! I saw a few doors at the top of long staircases like this that looked residential. I couldn’t help but wonder how everyday life works when you have a staircase like this to contend with each time you step outside 🙂

The N-Mediterranean cultures have been better on preserving their old buildings that the N- and W-European. What a treat to see these captures. Thank you for sharing these doors and beyond that, with us!

I kinda fell in love with the first door, all green and glossy, with paintings so cheerful, too — but then I oohed over the doors made of stone? and the staircase 😀 Always doors to wow, Norm!

Thanks Joey. Not stone, but really old crud-encrusted bronze or copper…I think. And yeah that staircase was pretty cool too 🙂

Some beauties! When we toured Italy – long before I knew about ThursdayDoors – my husband got so tired of seeing the inside of churches!

It’s easy to overdose on Churches in Italy that’s for sure. There was one day in Rome where we visited 6 or 7. On the other hand, each one had so many unique features and glorious art to admire it made the time spent in each one well worth it.

Ahh yes, Italia! But you found such diverse and glorious doors, also atypical. I stopped counting favourites after the first five photos, even though those blue and white stairs are especially glorious. And I see that you also found some peculiar bronze church doors. It made me smile when I saw in some photos the trouble with harsh life that illuminates only one half of a door. Welcome to the club and always welcome to return.

Thank you Manja. Yes I was hesitating to use the half lit door but then I decided it made for an interesting shot all the same. The door at the top of the stairs was my favourite from this batch 🙂

Happy New Year Norm! Loved your doors from Amalfi! My favorite was the skinny stairs and steep steps! I am going to have to get a move on with all my posts if I want to get 2018’s done before I leave again! But, I aint’t complainin’!

Door at the top of the multi-colored stairs is such a great photo, Norm. I also love the doors to the font.
I saw two doors with a indented circular window at the bottom. do you know if that has some special meaning?
I also really like the gates and the old stone staircases.

The one at the top of the stairs was my favorite shot from this batch.
No I’m not aware of any special significance to the ones with the circular window in the lower panel. Not a design we see in this part of the world that’s for sure 🙂

Why did that door have paintings outside of it? Wouldn’t the sun fade the colors? They were GORGEOUS! My favorite door is either the one with the colorful steps leading up to it, or the one with the brass kick-plate and the interesting construction. Happy 2019!

There was a small art gallery next door and they had a number of their paintings out on display outside, presumably to attract people to go inside.

Happy New Year, Norm! I didn’t know you were doors-ing this week so my post isn’t ready, but I’m back in the swing next week. Already have my door photo — just need to write the post. Your doors here are funky and pretty and everything in between. Very cool.

You captured so many lovely doors, Norm, and a number of unique ones as well. There are almost too many to comment on, but I found the first one interesting because of the paintings and the second because of the stairs and the expanse of wall with no windows.

So many to choose from, but the door with the cross-shaped window is my favourite. I was disappointed to learn it was on a church. I was rather hoping it was a private residence because that would be an awesome front door!!
