One Last Look at 2017

At the end of 2017 a number of our Thursday Doors contributors posted year-end retrospectives of their own favorite door finds.

Before turning the page on 2017 once and for all I thought I’d do something similar myself.

For my look back at last year I decided to narrow it down to one favorite for each month.

It was not an easy task but is was a fun exercise to take one last look back at all the doors I captured last year.

From the Plateau Mont-Royal borough in Montréal – no doubt, it’s the colours that made this one my number one pick for January.

This beauty sitting in the snow is from St. George’s Anglican church in downtown Montreal – it made the cut as my choice for February.

Another church door made the cut for March. This one is from the First Baptist Church in downtown Ottawa.

This charming example of 19th century Québecois architecture in Vieux Ste-Rose north of Montréal was my fave for April.

My choice for May was this small apartment complex with the candy-cane coloured trim in L’Assomption which is north-east of Montréal.

This little mailbox door found on Ile D’Orleans near Québec City was just too a-door-able not to choose for June 😀

This black and red beauty from the Byward Market in Ottawa stood out among all the interesting doors I posted back in July.

August was another tough choice, with this beauty from one of the buildings at the Loyola Campus of Concordia University in Montréal narrowly beating out a few other strong contenders from the same neighbourhood.

For September this Viking door from the L’Anse-aux-Meadows National Historic Site in northern Newfoundland was my top pick.

I chose this Viking church door also at the Viking Village site also at L’Anse-aux-Meadows as the best of my October doors.

My top pick from the November posts was this weathered beauty from the old Église Ste-Eustache church north-east of Montréal.

For December with the holidays on everyone’s mind, this one from the local outdoor Christmas market in Terrebonne was not a difficult choice.

That’s it for 2017 and by all accounts I’d say that it was a good year for door discoveries.

I’m already looking forward to seeing what we’ll find in 2018. I wish you all many fruitful doorscursions this year!
