Thursday Doors – December 21, 2017

At some point early in the New Year I’ll do a year-end recap/what’s in store for 2018 type of post. For now however 2017 has me literally and figuratively limping for the finish line and feeling very much in need of a break.

With that in mind let’s stock up on positive festive energy for the holidays by taking a walk around one of the local small-town outdoor Christmas markets north-east of Montréal.

We had a few crisp cold sunny days recently, just perfect to get out and explore the local Christmas market.

It was cold enough though, to discourage me from any ideas of being high up on a frozen Ferris Wheel. Some may enjoy this but I see it as a summer activity only 😉

Mind you if you’re dressed for it, -15°C (5° F) can be quite comfortable; especially if someone else is doing the walking for you 😀

The market opens each year for about 2 weeks before Christmas and helps introduce area residences to some of the local shops, artisans, and other small businesses in the Lanaudière region north-east of the city.

With several dozen stands offering all kinds of locally made products, there really is something for everyone.

We usually make a point of picking up our traditional holiday Tourtières (meat pies) here, along with a few other goodies for the holidays.

You can also find holiday-themed decorative items,

Or a few last minute hand-made gifts and stocking-stuffers.

If you start to get cold, you can always grab a coffee and have a seat by the fire.

The brightly coloured shacks do make for some nice door shots,

especially set against the snow.

But mostly these brief events are about discovering  and encouraging some pretty amazing local small businesses, and filling up on holiday cheer 😀

At this special time of year, whether you’re celebrating Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, or even Festivus 😉 I hope that you spend lots of quality time with those you love and find many blessings in your lives for which to be grateful.
