Thursday Doors – December 21, 2017

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Feel free to join in on the fun by creating your own Thursday Doors post each week and then sharing it, between Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time), by using the blue link-up button below.

Marché de Noel / Christmas Market – Terrebonne, Québec

Note: I’ve decided to take a blogging break for the holidays so this will be the last #ThursdayDoors link-up for 2017.

Please feel free to continue posting your own #ThursdayDoors for the next two weeks if you like. Just be aware that there will be no link-up here on December 28th nor on January 4th.

I’ll be back with our regular weekly link-up on January 11th.

At some point early in the New Year I’ll do a year-end recap/what’s in store for 2018 type of post. For now however 2017 has me literally and figuratively limping for the finish line and feeling very much in need of a break.

With that in mind let’s stock up on positive festive energy for the holidays by taking a walk around one of the local small-town outdoor Christmas markets north-east of Montréal.

We had a few crisp cold sunny days recently, just perfect to get out and explore the local Christmas market.

It was cold enough though, to discourage me from any ideas of being high up on a frozen Ferris Wheel. Some may enjoy this but I see it as a summer activity only 😉

Mind you if you’re dressed for it, -15°C (5° F) can be quite comfortable; especially if someone else is doing the walking for you 😀

The market opens each year for about 2 weeks before Christmas and helps introduce area residences to some of the local shops, artisans, and other small businesses in the Lanaudière region north-east of the city.

With several dozen stands offering all kinds of locally made products, there really is something for everyone.

We usually make a point of picking up our traditional holiday Tourtières (meat pies) here, along with a few other goodies for the holidays.

You can also find holiday-themed decorative items,

Or a few last minute hand-made gifts and stocking-stuffers.

including the actual stockings!

If you start to get cold, you can always grab a coffee and have a seat by the fire.

The brightly coloured shacks do make for some nice door shots,

especially set against the snow.

But mostly these brief events are about discovering  and encouraging some pretty amazing local small businesses, and filling up on holiday cheer 😀

At this special time of year, whether you’re celebrating Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, or even Festivus 😉 I hope that you spend lots of quality time with those you love and find many blessings in your lives for which to be grateful.

Friends: I wish you and yours safe and Happy Holidays and all the best for 2018!

As always, thanks so much for visiting and see you in the New Year 🙂

Fabulous final photo. You got perfect angle and light on that star. I like it very much.
I’d love to go to a winter fete, but we so don’t have any. Bout the best we get is the trip to the circle to see the lights. (Which I love.)
I’m a winter person, but not a Ferris wheel person.
I’m glad you’re taking a break, because as much as I enjoy your/our dooring, I need a break, too. Enjoy your holiday, Norm. I wish you all good things 🙂

Dear Norm and the Mrs. F.
Your holiday crafts Winter Fair looks enchanting with the handicrafts and delicious foods offered for sale. I’m not sure if the sun or fire circle would be enough but I would like to try and go. . .thanks for this pretty setting shared here.
Hope you have a very entertaining and lovely holiday season. 🕊❤ Your Thursday Doors program is one of my favorite parts of blogging! It is lovely how those here who I have met are the ones who ask how I am and even when my brother Randy had such a scary Thanksgiving event, checked up on how he was. The doors people are such caring and thoughtful ones, all because of you “corraling” them! ⭐✴✨

  11. A ferris wheel in winter would be much too cold for me. I love the idea of these Christmas Markets. It does look like a beautiful way to find and support some local small businesses. It has been a year filled with beautiful doors on your link-ups. Enjoy your much needed break Norm. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season! I look forward to seeing what 2018 has in store for all of us! 🙂

Oh, the adorableness (not a word!)! So cute. I would ride the ferris wheel thingy and then I’d buy one of those log Rudolph creatures. I’m so practicing my French more in 2018 so when I get to Montréal, I can go to things like this and (a) know what I’m reading and (b) try to fit in so maybe I’ll stay. You should work for the tourism/relocation board. (Wait, do you?) All your pics make me want to live there! 🙂

    • Norm 2.0 says:

Thanks Tara. Once you get outside of the metropolitan area, a bit of French will be quite practical. As much as I love our city, there are so many interesting things to see and do just outside of town that it makes it hard to decide what to see and where to go.
In the meantime all the best to you and yours for the holidays and throughout 2018. And perhaps even a Montréal doorscursion together next year.
      Cheers 😀

A ferris wheel in the winter? I suppose it’s like riding the ski lift, except for going in circles…but Brrrrrr! Have a wonderful break and holiday from the doors, Norm. Merry Christmas!

This looks like one of those perfect little markets that Quebec is so famous for. Even at -15C, I could happily stroll through here.
You always have great photos, and I think the huge star at the end is the perfect way to sum up the year ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you for hosting this event every week, Norm. Without question, it is my favourite.
Merry Christmas, and wishing you and your family the very best in 2018!

Beautiful, festive doors and scenes, Norm. I love the simple red and whit shed door. It all looks more like activity that should occur when it’s a lot warmer, but you have to admire the Christmas spirit on display. That wouldn’t get me into the Ferris Wheel, but…

Thank you so much for hosting Thursday Doors. It’s been a fun year and you curated an amazing selection of doors from around the world. Enjoy the holidays, the blogging break and I certainly hope you enter 2018, walking strong and feeling well. All the best, Norm!

I have a bit of a soft spot for small business and markets, so this looks delightful to me! Well, maybe not the frozen ferris wheel – that looks a bit dangerous…
