Another Stroll Around ByWard Market – Ottawa

We were back in Ottawa for a short visit last weekend and spent some time in my favorite part of town – the ByWard Market.

With all of the Canada 150 celebrations going on in our nation’s capitol there were lots of things to see and do. So many distractions in fact that it was hard to concentrate on doors.

I did manage to find a few new ones that I hadn’t already featured during our visit last year:

This one was good for a chuckle. Don’t have an appointment for the local barber shot? Then as this sign says, you’ll be glad to know that they take Walkens 😀

Thanks so much for visiting 🙂

This collection held unique and quirky doors which also were attractive! No shabby doors here! 🙂
I particularly the “If” or “iPh” door since red just cries out, “Look at me!” Smiles, Robin

I wonder how many Walken impersonations the barber shop is forced to endure? 🙂 Nice finds!

  12. That red door and black hardware is something else. I’d be drawn to it but probably wouldn’t want to touch the hardware. 🙂

  15. I love the Walken one – but more so for the reflection it created on the sign/door!

It’s funny you mention that. I kept trying the shot from different angles to minimize the reflection but at that time of day there was no way to avoid it 🙂

You went to Ottawa on July 1st? If so, you’re braver than I. 😉 Great pictures. 😀

Thanks Linda. No we went the weekend after. I don’t do dense crowds very well anymore so you’d have never caught me in that soupy mess of humanity on July 1st.
      Cheers 🙂

Guess only in the city you’re able to manage to find so many perfect doors every week! Envious but I love it! Especially this red door – stunning!

Well these are in a different city but honestly, once you become attuned to noticing them, fascinating doors can pop up in the most unexpected places 😉

These are some wonderful doors, Norm, but the entrance at 489 made me stop and stare for a while. That is stunning! Thanks again for giving us another opportunity to get our door fix.

I love the look of 489. So simple. But I’ll admit that the red door with its handle does catch my eye… which is good for business, of course.

iPho — That would win the prize, but the punniness is overshadowed by the Walken. As anything IS overshadowed by Walken, right? But iPho for a Vietnamese restaurant (probably with free wi-fi) is just so perfect! And the restaurant exterior is gorgeous! If the food is even half as good as that front, that would be my favorite place in the world. 😀

Is it normal to suddenly crave pho at 8am? Mmm…
Anyway, they’re all good for me — Walkens was great and I love the gates! Ooh and aah on gates! 🙂

  26. Hahhaa, that Walken gives good chuckle. 😀 And I like the last one, even though I don’t know what’s with the name or how to pronounce it.

A door that can make me laugh at 7:15 in the morning is pretty good and the Walken door achieved that!
I love that last door for its creativity, but after puzzling over it for a while, I still don’t get it. What the heck is it called?

  30. Norm, the sign and that last door with its clever name are my favorites for this week. Thanks for hosting my favorite challenge around and have an a-door-abe week.

  31. I love the “punny” doors. I’m also newly impressed by how straight and centered and perfectly lit your photographs of doors are. Before trying to do it myself, I just kind of took for granted that doors would be easy to photograph. After all, they’re rectangular, don’t have to smile, and don’t move (much). But mine are always at some weird angle as I pass by with my phone camera!

Thanks for the kind words Karen.
It takes some time to train the eye to shoot level and straight. For the few times I don’t, there’s always photo editing software to help 😉
Lighting is trickier. Sometimes a door will be on the wrong side of the street for the time of day so either you have to go back when the light is right, or skip that one altogether.
In both cases practice makes perfect
