Bank Street Beauties in the Snow – Ottawa

On a snowy day in Ottawa last weekend we took a stroll along trendy Bank Street with its colourful facades and funky shops and restaurants.

It was cold, the snow was blowing at times, and we had somewhere to be, so here is a small and somewhat hurried selection of the colourful doors we found:

Not sure if it was the colour of the door, the name of the shop, or the street art that attracted me most, but I had to get them all into one shot 🙂

We may have to go back when the weather is warmer to explore the area a little better. Some of the century-old homes we saw on the side streets left me with the impression that a serious doorscursion in this neighbourhood could be fruitful.

And here are a few shiny bonus doors we found in a old landmark hotel not far from there.

As always I thank you for looking 🙂

Oooo, I love 840! The bit just above the door is so fancy, and the glasswork. And I’m a sucker for those old hotels’ mail drops. The telephones flanking it are a sheer delight. What a happy picture!

Am surprised to see such colorful doors in the North! The snow makes it truly look a Wonderland! As to your comment now two weeks ago, about “complex problems” of the attack in Quebec, one of the many “answers” needed, I think is what I’ve written this week underneath my painting of “Open the Gates). I Don’t know how it is at the moment in Canada, but in the USA there’s a lot of mud slinging going around, that is really concerning me. The internet aggravates it,as well as the media, with one-sided info. Even though not liking to discover what is going on around the surface, the wrong undercurrents and backdoor deals needed to be exposed.
But these existing problems go so deep as to how children are raised, education, etc.

Thanks for the kind comments about the doors.
As for the rest: I think education and learning to do a critical analysis of the information we receive is key. What I find so disheartening at the moment is to see how easily so many people can be influenced through fear mongering. I’d like to think it is not as bad here, but we have our share of politicians who are so hungry for power that they will say just about anything – it’s shameful.

Sooooo, I have to travel to Canada to find my lost marbles? I would definitely do that to spend time on Bank Street with the lovely, colorful doors and the bakery. I could go for a piece of pie or cake or chocolate donut…

Lost marbles – is that term also used in Canada for mentally unstable? I like Mrs Tiggy Winkle’s door too. The inner polished brass doors are superb. My doors are from the Red Fort as promised. I posted the blog from my phone, so I didn’t get the full address of that specific blog, just my whole site. Sorry. Please alter it if you can. Best wishes, Ian

Great finds on a weekend when Ottawa was getting dumped on!! Door 840 is a colourful addition on a snowy day, but Lost Marbles is the best 🙂 You’re right, there is something about the combination of the 3 elements together … plus the fire hydrant! Maybe it’s just my need for colour right now! 🙂

I love the colors and I really like the names Lost Marbles and Mrs Tiggy Winkles. You have to hope stores like that can survive. I am a huge fan of letter boxes in the lobby and you snagged a nice one, Norm. It was also comforting to know that I wasn’t the only person photographing doors in blowing snow. There might be something wrong with us 🙂
