Green Doors Galore – Centenary United Church, Stanstead Quebec

There’s no nice way to put it; we’re into the crappy dog days of winter.

The grey dreary weather that alternates between freezing rain with unseasonably warm temps and then switching to heavy snow, followed by deep freezes is starting to wear down spirits around here.

If they haven’t already, in another few weeks most people in south western Quebec will be dreaming longingly of spring.

Of course spring will arrive…eventually. But in the meantime I desperately need a break from winter, so this week I dip into my archives for these shots from last summer during our time in Stanstead, in the Eastern Townships south east of Montreal.

The congregation that became Centenary United Church was established in Stanstead in 1804. The current structure was originally built between 1866 and 1869, and then rebuilt in 1883 using the original exterior walls after a fire destroyed the interior and the roof.

When we drove past this place I remember being immediately attracted to the old stone walls. This along with the bell tower with the clock in it made me want to circle back and take a closer look.

Upon closer inspection what I loved most was how the green doors and trim really worked well on this building.

So I did the full once-around and found several beauties worth sharing.

Right now the best thing about these shots is that they bring back pleasant memories of warm sunny weather.
