Colour and Elegance in Montréal’s Plateau Mont-Royal
Montréal’s Plateau Mont-Royal borough is one of the most eclectic and culturally diverse neighbourhoods in our city.
Exploring its commercial boulevards like Boul. St-Laurent or rue St-Denis you’ll find hip, modern, new world attitudes with trendy restaurants, shops, and boutiques in abundance.
But walk one block in any direction away from the busy commercial streets to the residential areas and you’ll also encounter quiet side streets
old world charm, and beautiful historic architecture.
Along with a tribute to Leonard Cohen, I showed you some some of the funky street-art in last week’s post.
This week I thought I’d show you some of my favourite colourful and elegant discoveries.

As always I thank you for looking 🙂
I remember liking the turquoise doors with the grille work, the butter or light lemon yellow half +half house with a dark stain on the top, has peaks over the windows (pretty designs in the “V” of the peak) and the stone house with golden painted wood (weathered) were my very favorites, Norm! I didn’t get a chance to comment when I first looked at this doors post.
Norm, hope you and yours had a very Merry Christmas and are looking forward to a happy new year!

What a beautiful, seasonal selection of doors, Norm. They’re wonderful. No snow here, we probably won’t get anything until February, if at all.

Thanks Angela and sorry for the delay, it has been a crazy week. Hint: in winters here, if you see lots of fluffy snow that usually means milder weather – it’s the bright sunny days that usually bitter cold.

I should remember that. Norm. Lived in DC for many years, but five years in Los Angeles have been enough to make me forget all about winter. I now feel cold when the temps get to the 50Fs…

Oh my goodness, these are all so pretty! 3651’s wood! Ooh! and 3828’s color contrast! Ooh! Love the painted balcony trims and the bright colors all around. The snow makes them even more vivid!
I just know those fries are cooked in rendered duck lard…I’m hungry, which distracted me into thinking the friterie was an actual building made of mosaic.
Great doors!

Norm, I can’t even begin to chose a favourite in all of the fabulous doors you have presented here. Montreal is such a great city to explore & the architecture is so eclectic & fun! Should be a very exciting year ahead with all of the 375 celebrations!

Sorry for the delay it has been a crazy week. Thanks Lynn. It’s funny how as I get older I’m learning to appreciate this part of the city more.
Yes between Canada 150 and Montreal 375, it should be one hectic summer around these parts. Now hopefully the mayor keeps his word and has all of the road construction finished in time for when the party starts in a few months 😉

Beautiful doors today, Norm. I love the color and architecture and the quaint neighborhoods in the snow. I always wanted to live in a townhouse on a quiet street in a charming neighborhood. It has a certain draw, like being in a Christmas movie.

What a gorgeous area and amazing colors, although the first photo both wowed and almost blinded me, so it was difficult to see the rest. 🙂 The colors must be even more fun in the winter when all else is either drab or white.

Norm, as noted with Joanne, the yellow is so nice… but the colors throughout the post has such a cheery feel. Also, because it is not red and green – it has a fresh feeling this week as calssic Christmas colors are everywhere. oh and the snow adds to the mood…

Great selection of doors, Norm. I love the colors. But, “I didn’t sample the deluxe french fries…” Crazy talk, Norm, pure crazy talk.
I really like the entrance with the brackets at the lower door supporting the balcony and balcony roof. The wooden doors with the blue trim are nice too. The red and yellow remind me of my trips to Iowa (ISU colors are red & yellow).
My favorite is the red brick house with the blue white and blue trim. That’s stunning. The snow adds that magical Christmas season touch to the perfect post. Merry Christmas Norm, to you, your family and the family of door lovers you work so hard to support.

It is so typical Quebec architecture isn’t it. I was in that area again today, picking up bagels at Fairmount Bagels; I ended up going down a different street than my usual route and now I have to go back because I saw tons more amazing doors!!!!
