Share Your World 2016 – Week 41

Here are my answers to Cee’s Share Your World questions for week 41.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

No.

Despite the fact that I do consider myself a romantic person, real love is something much deeper than anything you’ll find out from a first look at someone.

Attraction, infatuation at first sight? Yes absolutely. But love, that takes the time needed to get to know someone.

Your first car?

A 1994 Nissan Altima at the age of 30.

Unlike most young men I was never bitten by the car bug so it took me quite a while to get my first car.

I’ve had my driver’s license since my early 20’s and I’d rent from time to time if there was a short term need, but living in a city with great public transit and an extensive network of bike paths, I didn’t feel a need to tie up that much money on a vehicle.

Today, living in the burbs and working in the city, not having a vehicle is not much of an option. Though I am proud of the fact that we did manage to keep it down to one vehicle, and we have arranged it so that we can travel together on weekdays.

Who taught you to ride a bike? How did it go?

I think I was maybe 7 or 8 when I got my first bike. My dad helped me a bit at first but he saw that I had good balance and coordination so he pretty much let me figure it out on my own without any major incidents. It took me about half a day to get the balance thing down, and then just remembering to put a foot down when I stopped – you only forget that one once 😀

Ugly and rich or beautiful and poor?

Not much of a choice there is it? First of all beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyway, and neither beauty nor money is a guarantee of happiness. So kinda right in the middle on both fronts while being healthy, happy, and loved, that would suit me just fine.

This makes me think of that old Northern Pikes song (Canadian band from the mid 80’s to early 90’s), She Ain’t Pretty, She Just Looks That Way. It’s just a reminder that true beauty is on the inside anyway.

What was the first dish you could cook?

I’m really not sure. Being five years older than my brother with parents who both worked, I had to learn to fix simple meals for us both from a pretty young age. If I had to guess I’d say it was probably my mom’s fluffy scrambled eggs recipe. Basically it’s just eggs whisked and cooked slowly in milk, in a pot over low-medium heat and then served on toast with LOTS of ketchup.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

We’ve had two great weekends in a row. Last week was Thanksgiving here so we did the turkey dinner thing at our place. The previous weekend we hosted a big retirement party for my SIL.

This weekend we’re hosting a small dinner party with family in from out of town. Then I’m looking forward to a few weekends of quiet time and getting the house ready for winter before we start gearing up for the holidays. So how many days left till Christmas?
