One Liner Wednesday – Strangers You Meet on the Internet

Here’s my contribution for this week’s One-Liner Wednesday by Linda G. Hill:

While in Atlanta a few weeks ago I met up for the first time with fellow blogger Michelle Lunato for a morning photo walk that will be part of tomorrow’s #ThursdayDoors post.

We had made arrangements beforehand; Michelle and her boyfriend had been kind enough to offer to drive into town and pick me up at my hotel. Then we were to take a short drive to the neighborhood of Castleberry Hill to stroll around and look for doors and nice architecture to photograph.

Unfortunately due to some last minute changes in plans, her boyfriend was unable to make it, so Michelle came in to meet me alone.

While we were walking around chatting and taking pictures I noticed that Michelle’s phone was buzzing rather regularly.

Other than assuming that she was a very popular lady, I didn’t think much of it at first. But then at one point after stopping to respond to a text message, she explained what was going on: ladies, I’m sure you already know, right?

She had told her friends about her plans to meet up alone with a fellow blogger; a man she had never met in person before. A man she knew only from the internet….

So of course her friends were checking in on her to make sure she was okay and that I hadn’t turned out to be an axe murderer.

We laughed about it and I reassured her that as a Canadian I was only dangerous if I had a hockey stick in my hands.

Oh my, how I crack myself up 😀

When I got back home from the trip I was going through the pics with my wife, and recounting my morning doorscursion with Michelle. I mentioned how nice it is when we have people in our lives who care enough to be concerned about us in that way.

Since she follows my blog only semi-regularly my wife asked, “Which one is Michelle again?”

I replied “She’s the photographer/journalist who’s in the military reserve that I was telling you about.”

Seeing she wasn’t quite sure, I continued. “You remember some of those amazing pictures from Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan that I showed you?”

Her eyes lit up as she recalled, then she nodded and with a playful grin she said, “Oh, well if she survived doing tours in all of those dangerous places, she could probably kick your ass anyway, so maybe I should have been the one texting YOU.”
