Old Time Mural – Mascouche, Quebec
Only one image for this week but it has three doors in it 🙂
The door on the far left is real.
This lovely new mural just went up on a building we drive past regularly in the town of Mascouche northeast of Montréal.
The mural was sponsored by the town’s historical society, as well as the current owner of the building.
The scene depicts a butcher shop in the 1930’s that stood on this very same site. Today it’s a pizza joint:

And it looked so real from a few block away that I had to get much closer for my eyes to figure out what I was looking at. I guess we can say the artist achieved the desired result.

I love these types. This is one of many I’ve seen, and they’re all so well done! Just love the whole trompe l’oeile thing in general, and I love the yellow and white awning! Great find! 😀

Thanks. We haven’t tried the pizza there yet, but since it would be a good excuse to go in and talk to them about their mural, I have a feeling we’ll be giving it a try real soon 🙂

I’m not keen on butcher’s shops either even though I have been known for sitting on the local butchers table as a child having a sausage in each hand. But those were proper sausages in those days :-). Great mural and photo. Thanks for sharing!

Isn’t it weird how most butcher shops have disappeared and joined big grocery stores or morphed into delicatessen stores?

We still have a few left in our area, but they certainly are not as popular as they were 25+ years ago.

My first thought was, they’re planning a sermon on “The Way of All Flesh”. I was taken in by the trompe-l’oeuil, too. Thank you for sharing, Norm. 🙂

Norm, as you may know I love art in so many variations! This is an excellent mural displaying pride in the history of the building while providing beauty to a pizza shop! One of my favorites of all the mural art examples you have displayed. I will vote for the real door but like the other lifelike ones, too! 🙂 🙂

I love wall murals that depict landscape scenes, and this one is particularly significant to the building. Love, love, love it. How many times do I get to hit the *like* button?

I’m afraid you can only hit the like button once, but your kind words are equal to several dozen more likes – thank you 🙂

I love it. That is such a nice way to pay respects to their predecessors and salute their contribution to the history of the town. And, hats off to the talented person who actually painted it so the rest of us non talented folks can enjoy it. Thanks for the smile this Thursday. 🙂

Thanks. No the woman in the window is part of the mural. The window however is real – the woman is just painted on it. Very well done though isn’t it?

That is really cool Norm. Lifelike and whimsical. I like it when people add something like this to their surroundings. I know that the center door is part of the mural, well, I’m trusting you, but I like it the best.
