Share Your World 2016 – Week 25

Here are my answers to Cee’s Share Your World questions for week 25.

How many languages do you you speak?

Only two well enough to live and work in: English and French. This is the typical minimum for the majority of Montrealers. I can make out a fair amount of Spanish and Italian to understand someone if they speak slowly, but I don’t have enough of a vocabulary in either one to maintain a conversation.

When it comes to languages I’ve always felt inferior to most of my friends, most of them also speak at least one or two other languages depending on where their parents are from.

What are some words that just make you smile?

Bangkok!

Always makes me giggle like a fourteen year-old. Men: no matter how old we get, we never stop being amused by anything resembling bathroom humor 😀

If you were the original architect of one existing building, which building would you select?

From anywhere on the globe? Probably Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater in rural Pennsylvania about an hour and a half drive southeast of Pittsburgh.

Structural issues be damned, it is one of the most beautiful homes ever built. I have read books and seen documentaries about the place, and before I leave this earth I have to see it in person and photograph it for myself.

Would you rather have telepathy or telekinesis?  (Telepathy is the communication using your brain waves, telekinesis is channeling the energy onto physical objects to cause substantial, observable physical changes.)

Telepathy doesn’t interest me, in large part because knowing what others are thinking or feeling even if they don’t want you to, feels like an invasion of privacy.

Telekinesis however has sooo much potential; I’d jump at that offer in a heartbeat. Just imagine watching a politician giving a speech and being able to make the phrase “Liar, liar, pants on fire” come true!!!

Not bad enough to cause anyone permanent damage or scarring or course. Just to make it hot enough for them to stop exaggerating and stretching the truth. Come to think of it though, considering the political landscape these days this could become a full time job…hmm, I may have to rethink that one 😉

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? 

I deliberately don’t talk about work much on my blog but this past week I had very interesting and fun time.

I got the go-ahead on a new promotional video project to be done in-house this time, instead of paying outside contractors. It was a lot of fun watching and encouraging my young creative team as we worked on this. We rented professional equipment and shot with actors in a number of locations. We got all the shots we wanted and now it just needs to be edited. We’re planning to have it ready in time for our major industry trade show in Atlanta later this summer.

This next weekend I’m looking forward to going strawberry picking. Local strawberries are in season now and we have a number of u-pick farms not far from home. Unlike the tasteless watery ones we get from California or Mexico, Quebec strawberries have this sweet yet tart explosion of flavor, especially when they’re freshly picked, that nothing else even comes close. Weather permitting we’ll hopefully be doing that sometime very soon.
