Thursday Doors – December 24, 2015

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Feel free to join in on the fun by creating and sharing your own Thursday Doors post each week between Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time) by using the blue link-up button below.

It’s Christmas Eve – What Did You Expect?

So of course I decided to go with a church on Christmas Eve. And I even found one with nice bright red doors!

As I’ve mentioned before, with our French Roman Catholic heritage in the province of Québec, there’s no shortage of churches of all sizes to discover here on the island of Montréal.

Located on Boul. St. Joseph E. in Montréal’s Plateau Mont Royal borough, Église St-Pierre Claver was built between 1915 and 1917 and is one of the bigger churches in that part of the city.

Aside from its enormous red doors flanked by marble columns, it has two bell towers and many wonderful carvings in the stone archways above the doors and elsewhere on the front façade. I really love the carvings on the tops of the columns too.

By the way door fans, if you head over to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge you’ll find that she has doubled down on last week’s subject Doors and Windows, giving you two places to post your fave door pics for a second consecutive week. Do head on over there to check out some of the wonderful contributions and add your own post to the list.

To all those who celebrate it, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and as always, thanks for looking 🙂

Norm, sorry I over – blogged with too many posts wishing to share so much before the end of 2015. I got behind in my own comments let alone visiting others.
I liked the red set of doors on St. Joseph E.’s church. I am so glad you allowed us to see the details of your Quebec tour of historical churches and houses. The stone carvings on the parts and pieces of this church amazed me. Something you don’t always see even on old churches. Hope you have a wonderful rest of 2015 and the best in 2016. 🙂

Beautiful details of these red doors! And the star fits beautifully. Woke up with snow today AND a power outage, which got fixed an hour ago. A merry Christmas to you!

Thanks. I’m kinda jealous about the snow, it was unseasonably warm here again today; No snow expected until at least next week.
A very Merry Christmas to you as well 🙂

I took these shots at the beginning of December so I want to say the star is for Christmas, but I’m honestly not sure. If it’s still up in a few months, I’ll let you know 😉

Beautiful church! I sure miss all the beautiful detail that used to come standard in public buildings. Minimalism has its place, but I have a taste for the elegantly ornate. …As long as somebody else has to make it, of course.

    • Norm 2.0 says:

I’m not sure if it’s intentional minimalism; it has gotten so expensive to build like this today that no one has the money for it. At least we have beautiful older buildings to appreciate and hopefully preserve for future generations.
      Thanks and Happy Holidays 🙂

  30. I wonder how many of us will have red doors this week. 🙂 Quite a majestic structure and the doors hold up to it well.

Have a joy-filled, blessed Christmas, Norm.

Wow! What a grand church and what elegant doors. Yes, churches with red doors are perfect for Christmas. (I did one too, lol). However, mine is not nearly as grand but is quite quaint.
