Theodore Tugboat
Obviously this one comes from a boat of some kind:
The boat in question is a full size replica of the beloved Theodore Tugboat, the star of a children’s television show here in Canada in the mid 1980’s through the early 1990’s.
Once a week for about 8 seasons, in stories recounted by the Harbour Master, Theodore worked the waters of Big Harbour, overcoming challenges and sharing adventures with his other boat buddies 🙂
After it ended the show’s producers with the financial backing of a local restaurant and tour company, decided to build this full size version named Theodore Too which is now docked in Halifax Harbour, in Nova Scotia.
Though his days as a big TV star are over, for about $25 tourists can take a half-hour cruise around Halifax harbour on the Theodore Too if they wish.
Unfortunately the day we were there it was a little grey and drizzly.
I don’t know if the show was ever picked up in syndication in other countries, but if you have seen or heard of it before in your part of the world please let me know.
Here’s a sample:

Awesome photos, as always Norm.
Wow, that takes me back, my son liked Theodore, not as much as Thomas the Tank Engine, but he used to play with the boats in the tub.
I was sad when the show ended and when Denny Doherty (The Mamas and the Papas singer and voice of Theodore) passed away.
Thanks for the trip down memory harbour. 🙂

Memory harbour 😀
I’m glad you enjoyed.
You know I never realized that was Denny Doherty. Makes sense though, he was a maritime boy wasn’t he?

I only knew it from examining the VHS case (yes, VHS!) while my son watched. 😉

Great photos. You made me interested in focusing on the exterior of a boat rather than visualizing myself on the boat, on vacation. I consider that talent! 🙂

I want to think I remember seeing this boat, but it might just be because I want to go on the tour so much now. That’s a great door Norm and the pictures are pretty cool.

I think I remember a tugboat cartoon here in the US – could have been a rip-off. I don’t know. Theo would be a cheerful sight even on a gloomy day. Lost my door pic for the day but will enjoy checking on every one else’s!

Thanks so much Cee. Yes lots of fun. I’m not sure if I had more fun or if my wife did from watching me take tons of pics while acting like a little kid 😀

That is a cute door and tugboat. Sorry, I’m a landlubber, so no boat/ship doors from me: https://gwhphotos.wordpress.com/2015/09/24/thursday-doors-september-24-2015/

I have been on a bit of a hiatus but am back to the blog now! What a unique door! The story of Theodore Tugboat reminds me of Thomas the Train 🙂

Thanks and welcome back! I am going to have to look up this Thomas the Train fellow…a few have mentioned him and now I’m curious to know more.

My son was obsessed with Thomas when he was small – he is 13 now! It was a children’s show where Thomas was the main character, a blue train with a face, and he had all kinds of other train buddies with different names and personalities. Very cute 🙂 and a huge money maker – they ended up making train sets for kids with the various characters!

The grandkids love Theodore despite their liking Thomas the train engine. The door was a pleasant surprise and I like how you gave us it first. On my phone, this meant I had no clue what kind of boat so I thought it might be a tugboat. Thsnks for supporting my Doors posta. You are a great guy, Norm. 🙂

I live just down the highway from you and I’ve never heard of Theodore Tugboat before now. I suddenly feel a sense of deprivation 🙂
… but this boat is so cute!! I can just imagine travelling with small children and their squeal of delight when they see this boat. OF COURSE, a tour in the harbour would be required 🙂

I honestly didn’t remember seeing it until I watched a few YouTube clips. Gotta love those 1980’s low-budget productions 😉
