If We Were Having Coffee: Looking Forward to Spring

If we were having coffee I’d thank you for joining me. It has been a while hasn’t it?

I knew my schedule was going to keep me pretty busy through February and now here we are half way through March and I’m still tied up with a few projects.

I have two weeks left in my novella writing course and I just have a few pages left to write to finish my story. It looks like I’ll have plenty of time left for proofing and editing, for a change :-), before I hand in the final assignment.

I’d tell you that despite not being around as much and seeing a drop in traffic because of it, I actually hit a couple of nice milestones in February. I topped 500 followers on Twitter and 400 for my blog. I’m not the type to get obsessed with numbers and stats but I thought that was pretty cool.

Our weekend getaway to Quebec City at the end of the month did us both some good. Unplugging and recharging the batteries was a nice change of pace from the previous few hectic weeks.

The Ice Hotel experience was amazing. I still haven’t quite finished writing that post but I should have it up some time this week. And the side trip to Montmorency Falls netted some amazing pics that you can see here and here.

We spent a quiet Saturday strolling through the streets of old Quebec which we’d never done before in winter. It was a relatively mild day and at that time of year there’s so few tourists that it was a really special feeling, almost as if we had the place to ourselves.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that we’re starting to see signs we’ve turned the corner and spring is on its way. Out the back window, I can see the top of our compost bin which was still totally covered by snow last week, so the stuff is melting.

During the seasonal transition I’ll probably be posting more writing and fewer photos just because there’s really not a lot of great photo ops while waiting for the snow to melt.

I’ll use that time to start putting together a schedule for the blog as well, which is something I have yet to do. I’ve always had a good idea in my head of what posts I was planning but I think it might be time to put it down on paper.

One thing’s for sure, my Thursday Doors feature is staying mostly because it is one of my favorites. And in the future I want to try taking part in a few more photo challenges too.

I’d also tell you that I’ve been thinking about putting together a Montreal area meet-and-greet for later this spring, or perhaps early summer when the weather gets warmer. Doing a rough count I think there’s at least a dozen Montreal area regulars that I know of, and I think it might be fun to get together on an outdoor terrasse somewhere to talk WordPress, Writing, Photography, and blogging in general.

Nothing is decided yet, but if any of you locals are interested, or if any out-of-towners are planning trips to this area let me know; hopefully we can get a nice gang together.

So that’s what’s new with me; what about you?

Yay for Spring. I’m so ready for winter to be over.

I’m usually in Montreal once/month, so I’ll try to keep an eye on the timing of your get together.
    Cheers.

I’d be very interested in a Montreal meet-and-greet! Also, I hope you don’t let the wet slushy weather stop you from photographing! I’m sure you’ll be able to produce great photos in any situation. 🙂

You have achieved a lot of followers and this is always reaffirming your ability to connect and relate to others. It is nice to be working on your course work, which will be so exciting to hear of your novella coming out someday! Smiles! I was over on an old November ‘gift’ from Mark. His photo album of my family and though most may not think this makes sense or is a good excuse, he did this right before Thanksgiving. I wrote comments on November 22 and left for my Mom’s and visited with my brothers, too. I came back hitting a busy time at work, saw some of my own children and grandchildren and then, pre-holiday time… Somehow, you may think this is interesting, I had a wash of guilty feelings come over me last night, I woke up at home feeling I need to chase down those who looked at the photos on Mark’s blog and tell them, “Thank You.”
Here is your very belated words of thanks and glad you visited there, too. Smiles, Robin

Good luck finishing up the novella!

Things are busy around here, too, and the weather is unfortunately gross. There’s been a lot of rain this past week. I suppose that’s really grand for growing things, but really not-so-grand for the city streets and walking about. But it’s spring-ish, and that’s nice.

I’m working toward a real posting schedule, but I’ve started more of a writing calendar for the blog lately. It’s helpful.

Well, we ARE having coffee. I’m sitting at the local cafe, sipping a latte and writing and reading. I had a great week, which if you asked me on Monday I would never have believed I would say on Friday. But it was. The absolute best.

And the snow is melting. 🙂

Too bad I’m nowhere near Montreal. That meet up sounds great! I keep thinking that’s what I need…to get out and meet fellow bloggers in person. WordPress is hosting an event here in Portland, Oregon on March 28 and I had hoped to go but with the admission and (downtown Portland…which is pricey because it’s downtown) hotel expense (I would have to stay over one night due to drive time issues) I don’t think it’s doable for me. I have met two other bloggers here in Portland through the blog and one in Tacoma (3 hours away). I know there are lots more, I just don’t know who but it would be a fun thing to organize some kind of meet up for/with them. Let us know if yours materializes and what works/doesn’t work.

Gee that event sounds kinda complicated, but at least it will be properly organized and officially sanctioned.
Mine is just at the idea stage and would be pretty informal. I’ll keep you posted if it actually works out.

Right. So Thursday Door is not going anywhere. Good. I was going to flip a table if that was going to end. I’m gearing myself to join in on that, and it is one of my weekly blog type things in all of bloggingdom. I’ve liked and/or pinned all your doors.

Flip a table?! Aw shucks, I’m flattered but please don’t resort to that on my account 🙂
Do feel free to join in any time. I’m gonna have to investigate how to include a linky to make it easier for others to participate. Stay tuned for news on that.

Congrats on the numbers!! Spring is arriving here too–Boston’s snow is mostly water at this point, and I’ve heard the same is true in upstate NY. Finally!

  10. I’m currently drinking my afternoon coffee and enjoyed this post! I’m not a big stats person in terms of caring what the number is, but it is a great way to know you are reaching others. I have almost 5000 followers on my Instagram account and it is really gratifying!! Glad you are keeping your Thursday Doors and look forward to spring – I agree that there isn’t much to look at outside right now!!

Just as you look forward to warmer weather, I am totally fascinated by the ice hotel story. We in Tucson have no way to relate to an ice hotel, but we all want one.

  12. I just finished my coffee. 🙂 I love your Thursday doors so I’m glad those will stay with your schedule. I found a fun door in some London photos I’m going to link to you one of these Thursdays, and I referred a Connecticut blogger who does doors to you as well. We had a couple of days where we had a taste of spring and now we’re having a weekend of storms, but I’m ignoring it. Whatever falls is going to be driven over and not shoveled. 🙂 We’re busy making plans for a trip the end of April to Holland, Luxembourg, and Belgium. Scary exciting stuff. 🙂

Abosultely gorgueous pictures! Thanks for sharing. I for one though think I will stick to walking on frozen lakes rather than climbing a frozen water fall!
Thanks for the coffee, it was nice seeing you again!

hmm just a question: have you done the black and white photo challenge yet? I know off topic but a thought just sprung to mind….. 🙂

    Tell me about the novella?

    • Norm 2.0 says:

No the B & W challenge is on my list to consider. That and taking some time to figure out this Bloglovin thing.
The novella might just turn into a full-fledged novel later this year. It the story of a young man who discovers a grandfather he thought was dead, and through him uncovers some dark secrets about his family history.

I wish Montreal was a little closer, the meet and greet would be fun. I am getting closer and closer to joining you on the Thursday Doors. Probably not every week, but maybe every other. I might start with some older pics (if that’s allowed).

Absolutely Dan – I’d love the company for the doors – the more the merrier.
And if you ever make it up our way, just know that you have your own private tour guide right here 🙂
