Here’s my entry for the Weekly Photo Challenge – Wall.
This series of pics was taken on a recent visit to Montmorency Falls just outside of Québec City. At 84 meters (274 feet) these are the tallest falls in the Province of Québec.
In summer the falls are a very popular tourist destination with thousands of daily visitors admiring the view from a number of look-out points.
In winter the river freezes over, as does all but the fastest moving portion of the falls, creating spectacular walls of ice.
For climbing enthusiasts these ice walls are an irresistable challenge that attracts ice climbers from all over eastern North America and the rest of the world.
Personally I think these people are insane. Hanging from a wall of ice held in place by a fastener and a piece of rope is definitely not for me, but their passion sure makes for great photography.
Here are some my favorites and please feel free to let me know which ones you like best:
Thank you for looking 🙂
Oh wow. Scary and fascinating at the same time. Great images!

Nice shots! Thanks for sharing. What tool do you use to add your copyright to the photos?

Thanks Shawn. I use both Photoshop & Lightroom from Adobe. You can set up an “action” that allows an entire batch of pics to be resized for web and watermarked all with one click.

Yes it’s definitely something suited to the adrenaline junkies among us. Certainly not my speed that’s for sure 🙂

You and I would have fun watching and taking photos, though. 🙂

Speak to a regular and they’ll tell you it’s perfectly safe as long as it’s done right. I’m with you though, I’ll admire them from below.

Thanks for the kind words 🙂
Yes we’ll probably go back in the summer. There are a few strategically placed look-out points that will surely make for some wonderful shots.

I can’t choose because I like them all. The ones showing the climbers are great but the others with the ice and the bridge are great too. A+

These are great Norm. I love frozen falls bug I’m not climbing on them.

Thanks, you’ll never catch me hanging by a rope from a wall either.

I like them all, Norm, but as you said, that would NOT be me. I’d be at the other end of the camera taking photos. 🙂

Yeah even in my younger days this is a little too risky for me.

Wow. I think they must be a little insane, too. My favorite is the third one from the bottom. Not sure why. I just like it. 🙂
