Here’s my entry for this week’s Tuesdays of Texture.
They’re from a recent visit to Montmorency Falls just outside of Québec City. These shots are a good example of the type of texture created in and around a waterfall in winter.
The first is from the top of the falls and the other three are from down at the base.
We’re actually standing on the frozen river to get these shots. As you can see some folks were more adventurous than me and were not afraid to get closer.
I preferred to keep a safe distance while looking for interesting texture patterns in the frozen cliffs and snow drifts at the base.
I also caught some great pics of a few ice-climbers on the left side of the falls but I’m saving those are for an upcoming post.
I promise you folks I’m almost done with winter texture pics for this year, but in the meantime thank you for looking 🙂

Until you scroll to the people shots you don’t realize how much ice you’re looking at. These texture shots are fantastic.

Yes, I know what you mean. I’ll be sure to include some perspective shots when I post the ice-climbing pics in a few days.

I love winter texture pics … I’ll be a little sad when yours are done. 🙂

Me too probably, but not until July when it’s + 33C with high humidity 😉

Nice shots Norm. You might be almost done with winter shots, but winter is not done shooting us with crap weather… time to winterize a bicycle for me 😛

I’ve visited this place in the summer, when the falls are more water-y. 🙂
p.s. Headed back to Montreal tomorrow. Could you turn up the heat for me?

It sure looks different in the summer.
Forecast -3 to 0C tomorrow with light flurries – you’re welcome 🙂

Amazing photo’s, Norm. Makes me think how lucky we are in the UK not to have had all that snow.

Thanks Hugh. Actually if you’re dressed properly it can be quite beautiful. It’s just that winter drags on for so long that it wears you down. On the flipside, it certainly helps us to appreciate summer 🙂

Another great example of how winter totally changes a landscape. I’ve only ever seen Montmorency Falls in summer. Very beautiful!
If I remember correctly, isn’t there a restaurant at/near the top of the Falls?

Thanks. Yes, your memory is correct. The main dining area is only open during the summer season. In winter only a small seating area with vending machines is accessible.
