To be totally honest I was never in love with the original title for this blog. In fact there were times when I downright hated it.
Firstly it was too long. I also noticed that others politely shied away when trying to make mention of it in shout-outs, pingbacks, or reblogs. And I was starting to find the overly cutesy alliterative title: Miscellaneous Musings of a Middle-aged Mind, well a little annoying.
However in my own defense it was the first acceptable name I came up with when I decided to go ahead with this blog. And knowing how much of a perfectionist I can be, I forced myself to go ahead with it… at least until I could come up with something I liked better. Otherwise I knew it might take months (which it did – 10 to be exact!) to make a decision. Or worse; I’d change my mind about blogging and this whole thing would have never seen the light of day.
So without further ado: Welcome to Norm 2.0 !
And for those newer followers who are wondering where the new title comes from, you can read about it here: The Day I almost Died.
It seems that what started last spring as a place to display my creative writing projects, opinion pieces, and my different writing styles for potential freelance clients has morphed into more of a photography blog, with an occasional writing post thrown in.
You know what? I like it like this.
With that in mind I can tell you the content won’t change much, though I may tweak the appearance a bit here and there. All of my regular photo features will stay and I will try to take part in a few more photo challenges this year.
I do want to include a few new writing features, and spend more time telling you about the very special corner of the world I live in as well. So please stay tuned, there may be a few little additions in store later in the year.
In the meantime I have enjoyed meeting other photographers and writers from all over the world to share our thoughts, opinions, and ideas in this wonderful place we call the WordPress community.
I thank every single one of you for clicking that follow button here as well as on Twitter. Your likes, favs, and mostly your comments and encouragement have convinced me that I made the right decision when I first hit Publish on my very first post back in April 2014
Now I just need to figure out how, or even if I need to, change the URL over to something a little easier to find as well.
Here’s to what’s to come: Cheers and as always Thanks so much for looking 🙂
I like the new title! I was also okay with the old one.

I liked your very first post Norm. I would add one more thing to the list. “Always stay at least twenty years younger in your head”

Here by way of the #SundayBlogShare
I am looking at rehab/physio/injury recovery AGAIN– after back surgery #2 this Wednesday. So I read your “The Day I almost Died” post, and, *sigh* I hope I can work back to something like that, because I was mad that didn’t happen after surgery #1.

Patience my friend. The body takes time to heal. That was the maddening thing for me, anyway. That and coming to terms with the fact that there are things I just cannot do anymore..it is not easy, that I’m sure you already know. Good luck and take it one day at a time 🙂

True that, Norm. I’m just frustrated because I waited a few years for the vertebrae fusion to heal, only to find I’ve got much the same problem all over again.
I’ve had to adjust a few things, for sure.

I like the new title very much. I think it is much more appealing, and works for a wider audience than the original one.
My original blog title was “The Writing Catalog” and I ended up finding it too stodgy and too limiting, content-wise. I started with it for the same reason you did — first acceptable title I came up with. That’s why I went with Just Gene’O.
I also ended up changing the URL, but I did it the hard way — just set up a new blog, moved the archives, and blogged about the design process and the move for two months to get most of my followers to come with. That was a lot of work, and I lost a few readers, I think. If you do decide to change the URL, and you don’t mind paying for it, the redirect is the way to go.

Thanks for much for the feedback and advice yesterday. I’m going to let the dust settle for a month or so before making a final decision on the URL.
Yes, if I do decide to change, it’ll be with the redirect.

Is it a free upgrade or do we have to buy some sort of patch to make it work? 🙂

Not sure if you’re asking about changing the title or changing the URL. The title can be changed in your appearance settings any time. The URL I’m finding out is a little more complicated…err wait; was that a joke about the 2.0 in my title?

Yes, Norm, it was a joke at the 2.0… 🙂

I’m all for driving efficiency, so go from ~40 characters in your old title to ~7 in your new one is pretty awesome. 🙂 Welcome Norm 2.0!

I like the new name too!
As a teaching assistant for WordPress classes, I can tell you that changing the URL of your blog IS possible … but as noted in comments above, it can create a lot of issues now that https://miscellaneousmusingsofamiddleagedmind.wordpress.com/ has been established for so long.
Unless you’re going to buy a domain name without “wordpress” in the middle, it’s really not worth changing anything.
Welcome to 2015, Norm 2.0!! 🙂

Thanks for the advice Cindi. That was pretty much what I had concluded as well. So for now, no URL change.

No worries Judy. I have door posts scheduled well into February and many more in the can for future posts. It has become one of my favourite features too.

I like Norm 2.0 … nice simple easy to remember … catchy even. You can change the URL of your blog, I know it is possible… but alas I have no idea as to how, and the one person I know who did do that said he had lots of bugs afterwards… so. 🙂

Thanks. I’ve decided not to play with fire and leave the URL alone for now.

Coming up with the name that most suits you and that you like is hard and I’m glad you came up with something you like. I was told not to change the URL because it messes with your SEO. I don’t know about that because I did it anyway and I seem to have done okay, but granted I was only a month or so in.

Thanks. I think I’ve already come to the same cautious conclusion on the URL – but I think I’ll leave it alone; I don’t like unpleasant surprises.
